Have you ever started a round that badly that you've just given in and walked back to the first.

Well yesterday i did!

Usual family 3 ball as every sunday and after hitting my 1st shot 1 yard (sliced into a tree rebounded back) i then hacked up the fairway put one in the water and walked off with an 8.
2nd Hole: Par 3 over water. First shot didnt get there. Off to dropping zone. Put 2 in the water from there and gave in.

Walked back to the first and started again.
Went par 4, then 2 in the water on the 2nd for a 7. Proceeded then to play better went round front 9 on par with hcap and then shot a gross +3 on the back 9 for a 64 and -6. Hcap card in so hopefully a cut coming my way.

Pull,Can you tell me how you were allowed to do this, and how, afterwards you put the card in for h/cap purposes, this means if you dont play a certain hole well, you can go back and play it again till you par it or something, dont think this is right mate ,sorry !!!!!..

This maybe just me, and I stand to be corrected, but it doesn't seem right that because you got off to a bad start you can scrub those scores and start over? :D

If you are handing the card in (presumably for a supplementary card, as you say you already have a handicap) then don't you have to declare it as such pre-round?

Can't exactly start over on medal day - although there have been a few times when I have wished you could! :o

We have a bit of a strange guy at our place (well a few actually, but 1 in particular) who never seems to play with anyone else, usually he plays 3 or 4 balls on every hole. He submitted 3 cards for handicap, each one at 1 over gross and all signed by a none member - from what I've seen of him he looks like about a 24 handicapper to me!

Beat me to it!

And in answer to the OP - no, never have :)

Not sure if this a wind up or im reading this wrong ?? Have it all down as far as "64 and -6".. you went round front 9 on par with handicap.. ok so you have an official handicap yeah ?? you started again ?? (this made me thing it was just a knock about, not a comp) then you finish with "hcap card in hopefuly a cut coming my way" for this card??? you cant hand in this card for any purposes if you started again ...did ye all start again ?? some one please tell me ive read this wrong ..

Not medal. Just general play.

Partners who were signing handicap card were there to witness me replaying 1st and 2nd hole and as such saw all the shots. Continued rest of the round with them.

The reason for restarting was that i was in a bad mind frame for hole 1 and 2 that continuing was pointless hence i restarted.

My handicap was inactive and as such i've put 3 general play cards in to reactivate it and have put in a 70, 66, 64 (par 70). The aim wasnt to put it in as i had a good round, i like my 18 hcap, it makes things simple..

Yea but the point is, if you're putting in a handicap card (whether you intended to or not) you can't just re-start your round.

That's like a pro teeing off on the Sunday of a Major, having a nightmare start then saying "oh actually, I wasn't in the right frame of mind, I'm just going to play the first two holes again".

Can't really use it as an official card if you do that.

The way I see it you either take the bad holes and continue your round, trying to put right what went wrong in the first few holes, and enjoy the game with your playing partners; or you just walk in, get in the car and go home! I'm sorry but going back to the first and starting again isn't right!!!

And how did your playing partners feel about that? If I was one of them and had started really well I would've been seriously annoyed and would've probably continued my round without you!

Yes i see the points been made and understand.

However you can't compare to pro's etc or even a medal round as my intention wasnt to win anything or to cheat it was to actually play a decent round of golf which if i had continued wouldn't of happened as i'd have jacked in the card on the third hole.

Sorry mate, but that's not strictly true - your intention was to submit the card to get your handicap reactivated. So don't you think the round should have been played to the rules of golf? exactly the same as if it were a medal?

I wouldn't have signed the card had I been asked :(

Which would be fine, but you submitted it as a handicap card, and it's not an accurate scorecard so therefore shouldn't be used.

But what would it have mattered if you ripped the card up on the 3rd, it was just a knock, sounds to me like you had the intention of putting the card in,so restarted so the score was presentable,so could submit it,not on in my opinion......

Pull - we all start out with the intention of playing a decent round of golf mate! :D

How can you think that you wern't cheating if you had a card in your hand and restarted the round - thats pretty much as bad a case of cheating as I've heard of!

We all go out to "play a decent round" but to do what you did and put a card in is outrageous! Next you will be wanting to repeat any bad shot until you hit a good one.

I think that you need to have a deep think about what you did and realise how wrong it was on so many counts

Fully understand the above and not trying to put forward what i did was in hindsight correct. However at the time my thought was to get in good mindframe and enjoy my round rather than oh i must improve my card.. heck i took a +4 7 at the par 3 2nd but i'd got out of the negative mind frame i was in.

I dont think i have read anything so ridiculous on this forum, so assume that it is a wind-up.

Family 3 ball? who signed the card? I thought to put a card in you had to go out with a club member, I know I did. Whoever signed the card is as bad as the OP.

I wonder if the competition card I put in yesterday will be good enough for next weeks medal, saves me going to the course and I doubt/know i will play that well.
