I was playing at Westerham (don't remember the hole) and the green is by a pond and just beyond and to the right is a practice green.I had about 120 yards into the green and hit a massive push straight towards the putting green...... which at the time was occupied by the pro and about 15-20 6-8 year olds..... as soon as I hit it I screamed fore and my heart just sunk, literally waiting for a little one to hit the deck. Luckily it missed everyone but the pro was very very very shocked.Any other shockers?

Hit my brother in law full on in the back. We were in his garden and we were playing who can make the lob wedge go furthest... He was up at the fence to the field but to my right. A nice thin/shank directly at him, he had time to spin so the ball caught him in the back/ribs. I pretty much thought it was hospital time but hes a tough lad.

The ball mark came up instantly in black and stayed a few weeks.

When they were younger my wife chucked a badminton racket at him and broke his nose and blacked both his eyes.... he really needs to start getting out of the way.

Blocked a tee shot off the 16th at my old track, gave a big fore shout to the people walking up 15, they all turned and ducked, the ball pitched about 2 feet in front of them, popped up and smacked one of the straight on the backside! Left a little bruise apparently...I apologized (obviously) and declined the offer of rubbing it better for him.

I played a round where we had 2 men (probably mid 50's) behind us. They twice had played it fairly close to us, but we put it down to them knowing their distances. On the 18th green, as we were in the middle of the green putting out, one hit his approach. Flew over our head and landed at the back of the green. I went bezerk and screamed at the guy. Not very gentlemanly I know, but with 2 close calls and then a blatant disregard to our safety I'd had enough. His reasoning...? He didn't see us. 150 yards away. On the green of the hole he was playing. I honestly shudder to think what would have happened if the hole was placed elsewhere on that green. I'd never seen a ball come down so close, it was more like a bullet. Especially since the guy was close so it came from a height of an 8 / 9 iron...

I also witnessed a PP thinning his ball along a path. We shouted fore as the tee for the next hole was along the path. 2 minutes later, we saw a guy running out towards the green we were going for. Apparently, the ball had been low to the path, hit a low fence / post and shot up. Of course, our shout of fore meant they all head their heads down, and one guy was hit in the eye. Luckily, he had glasses on which broke, but could have been a lot worse had he not have had them on. He carried on up the final hole of the course & was ok, we were all a bit shaken.

I hit a horse at Bramshaw a few years back! Thinned a tee shot and it flicked off of the ground and off of the horse's rump! It seemed only mildly inconvenienced.

Was hit once playing at Horeshay , Telford. Guy duck hooked it off the 7th tee and shouted fore a millisecond before it hit the inside of my knee on the full as I was putting on the 4th green, had a lovely bruise :(

1st tee at Chartham park ,brand new driver having its first outing ,a big snap hook saw it careering off left towards the 18th fairway, just as two chaps were coming up towards the green. ball caught one of them squarely on the upper arm with quite a whack. for all the shouting we,my pp and I gave he never even looked up. he did when he was hit though ,but he just shook it off and said no problem and carried on .

i was hit when collecting my balls from the practice range at Piltdown GC ,the rule was to put a flag out when people were collecting balls ,i had my back to the teeing area and didnt see a ball headed my direction it caught me plum in the middle of my back .hurt like hell.

bloke said he saw the flag but didnt think i was in danger as he was a good golfer .,,he was good alright ,never missed me did he

I was almost hit on the 18th once, walking up 18 to play my 3rd shot, my friend in the group behind me ripped a 3 wood for his 2nd shot, it missed me by inches, flew past my right ear and scared the living daylights out of me. He laughed about it (because he was a knob)....I had to clean my pants.

Yep - hit myself square in the chin splitting it open! Mid swing got greedy regarding the tree on my line and the ball rebounded back at me before I could move. Couple of days later opponent in matchplay was in the trees and I was stood adjacent - ball hit a tree and came out 90 degrees and straight at me, smacking me in the ribs.

Playing on Friday and so close to getting hit from a wayward sliced drive - it was motoring and scared the living daylights out of me. No shout from the tee so waited until the culprit reached his ball and shouted "FORE"...made him look at least.

Nearly killed my uncle once. Had a 60-70yd shot over a bunker, so thought I'd go with a 60* wedge. My uncle has walked off in front and I didn't think anything of it as the plan was a high shot. Instead I absolutely bladed it, and before I had time to shout it cracked him straight in the back of the head.

He went down, but was ok. Luckily the clap on his cap seemed to take some (not much) of the sting out of the shot.

It was our 17th hole, he carried on, I couldn't. Was far too shaken up.

Was following a group that included a few of our Cat 1 players once.

We'd reached our par 4 13th and I'd carved my drive right towards an adjacent hole, after taking ages to find it, as well as waiting for others in our group to play, I hit my hybrid over trees towards the green, never for one moment thinking that there'd be anybody still on the green or that I had a remote chance of getting there.

On walking back onto our hole I was mortified to see them still on the green and my ball on the back fringe  I was even more mortified on getting to the green to see my pitch mark in the middle of it :o.

Luckily I'd not hit anyone but lesson learnt and I now never hit a blind shot to a green without checking to see if it's clear, no matter if I think there's nobody there or there's only the remotest chance of reaching.

No, but I've had times where I think it will get them only to be miles short/long/left/right - still makes you cringe as you shout fore though I'd be mortified if i hit someone.

I got hit on the arm whilst in my garden - stung. No shout of 'Fore'.
The golfer walked right past me. When I asked if he was concerned whether his drive had done me or anything any damage he said several Anglo Saxon phrases very loudly and told me to p** off so he could take his second shot !!!!

I have once. First hole of a medal I lost a ball off the tee, hadn't played a provisional as we thought it was fine, and had to jog back to the tee.
Jogged back with a shorter club than my first attempt and a ball.
Hit the shot, lost it up against the clouds, but thought it was somewhere in the middle and well short of where my playing partners were stood.
It wasn't.
Whacked one of them full on the thigh.
It was awful, painful for him and I was mortified.
He was ok and we played on, but my head was gone and played absolute garbage.
He had a bruise for a few weeks and still ducks whenever he sees me.

Almost got hit in the face by a line drive, that was pretty scary. I felt the whoosh, and heard it as the ball shot past my right eye. Missed by no more than a couple of inches. Wayward drive off the 6th, I was walking up the 10th fairway parallel but above so out of sight from the tee. No shout.

Been hit in the back and it hurt. Was playing my second on our third and was putting the club in the bag when the idiot behind teed off. One bounce about five yards behind (and potentially far worse) and straight in the bag. Went down like a Spanish forward. Big bruise and struggled to walk for a few minutes. The guy eventually sauntered up and the usual "thought you were out of range" crap. Gave him a mouthful and hobbled off. He came up in the bar after and made a big show of trying to by me lunch and a drink. I'd already reported it and my PP's suggested he'd be better off going away. I tried to play as I was marking a card but was in pain and it tightened as I went on so stopped and just marked the card. Never hit anyone and long may that continue. Hit a horse though

When I was a lad, about 15 years old, a friend and I would hack balls around our local sheep fields. I only had three ancient hand-me-down clubs, a niblick, a 6 iron and a 1 wood. Our games usually consisted of hitting a couple of balls towards a vague target and walking after them in slapdash fashion. After watching my friend duff his shot about 15 yards, I decided to have a crack with my 1 wood. He was walking away from me, I turned about 45 degrees to the left of him and lined myself up to my Top Flite, I was thinking there's no way I could hit him from that angle.

The ball came off the toe, 45 degrees to the right of me at about waist height like a bullet, just as my friend was bending down to pick up his ball. The ball hit him in the forehead and ricocheted straight up, the noise it made on contact with his head was as a crisp as a leather ball off willow. I stared, mouth agape, caught between nervous laughter and a scream for help as I watch him fall to the ground limp, holding his head and beginning to convulse.

I ran over to him and as I got closer I honestly thought I'd killed him because he was in the foetal position twitching and making strange noises. I tried to ask him if he was alright but I couldn't speak. My mouth was dry and despite my mouth moving I couldn't make any noise. He rolled over onto his back and clutched at his stomach. He wasn't dying. He was laughing so hard he could barely breathe between words.

"Did you" Gasping for air... "Hear that?"

I really did think I'd killed him so the laughter came with huge relief. The lump on his head was spectacular and he wore it like a badge of honour. I don't know how he didn't punch me, if the roles were reversed I wouldn't have behaved the same.

I think it's one thing to swear or mouth off in the heat of the moment when you've just been hit, particularly if it was avoidable.

However, I'd like to think if/when it happens to me, I'd be happy to shake someone's hand in the bar afterwards, knowing/hoping that the experience has taught them a lesson.

Around 7-8 weeks ago, I hit a perfect shank and nearly hit my PP in the head. He was standing 15 yards right of me and a foot forward. Didn't know a golf ball could go in that direction to be honest.

I nearly got hit in similar circumstances at Camberly Heath, 17th green from memory. We were looking for my elderly PP's ball right of the green, found it, only for some fella in the group behind to fire one in:o

The ball missed the Oap by inches...could have killed him :(
