Have you ever had a proper bunker lesson, in a bunker the whole lesson etc?

Have you ever had a dedicated bunker lesson in a bunker?

Prompted by the numerous threads on wedges and bunkers it seems such an important part of the game. otoh I have to admit that in 30+ years of play I've had tips, the odd discussion etc as well as spending hours in practice bunkers refining my hit and hope technique......but I've only ever had lessons hitting full shots. :mmm:

I have and it was a revelation to me! i used to really fear going into bunkers and would often 2-3 stab to get out... i wouldn't say i am an expert now, but the fear has gone and i am confident of getting out and getting close from greenside bunkers. one of the best spent 45 minutes of my life! and i still go the practice ground and go over what i learned.

Nope. I read a Leadbetter instruction feature in some golf magazine a good 20 years ago, when I was a teenager, and went out and practised it until I had it figured out. I've always been pretty good out of sand since then (although I kind of lost it for a couple of months there).

I have, with David Howell, we were in the bunker about 40 mins at Bearwood Lakes, he showed us all sorts of different shots. Very cool.

As part of a short game lesson, so maybe half the lesson in a bunker but never a dedicated bunker lesson: Lord knows I should

Never no .. i think people convince themselves they cant play bunker shots, but i do think having an unrealistic shot or expectation in mind causes most problems .. some people will try play the same bunker shot no matter the bunker or the lie in the bunker..

I suppose its the same with most shots but people see bunkers as a punishment and are defeated before they get in them

I had a 15 min bunker lesson and it was priceless. He showed me that you had more room for error on a bunker shot than a tight chip.

Worth every penny

Never. Im usually pretty good out of bunkers after practicing for ages when I first started playing as I was having trouble with them. Recently I have been a bit crap as I keep taking it for granted and catching too much ball, but hey Im only human

I think bunker shots are like putting in that its easy when your confident with them. As soon as the doubt starts creeping in that's when it goes belly up imo.

no but who knows just booked in for a lesson after months of struggling so if all goes well maybe i will after i have learnt to hit the thing again!

After some tips on here from Bob, I dont really struggle from sand now.

A lesson could be benficial to hone technique, bt I'll save that until I begin to struggle.

Missed out on a comp win many years back as I took two to get out a greenside bunker on the 18th and still left it woefully short. First thing on the cards after that was a bunker lesson. It was well worth it. Never scared of a bunker shot nowadays.

part of a lesson, but never a full dedicated lesson. I am fairly confident out of bunkers and usually get it up, out and on the green. Still room for improvement of course. Thing I need to work on is the rubbish bunkers with little or no sand that frequent a lot of courses, especially after rain when it has been heavily packed down.

My coach taught Gary Player to play links bunkers so I was lucky

When I could play properly it was the strongest part of my game.
I usually found it easier to get down in two from a bunker than the fairway.

I have yes because it used to destroy my scoring when I first started playing. Now I'm confident in bunkers of how to play the shots, the only problem then is you get bunkers like the ones at our place where some have sand and you can play a comfortable shot or there other ones that are basically clay and you have to hope for the best!

Had a 2 hour session dedicated to bunker play by my pro when we went on the Morrocco trip earlier this year. There were 8 of us working in pairs with the Pro and we covered various scenarios. Very informative.

Coincidently I had a bunker lesson with Bob last night. I have been getting progressively worse recently and did not really know what to do to correct it so went to see Bob. Now I am confident of what I need to do in a number of situations and know that I will be practicing the right technique so I am very happy. Hope it works at the weekend.
