Have a dig at Faldo...

He may have mentioned Tigers driving distance but didn't say anything about accuracy.

I'd rather listen to Faldos commentary any day

Golfmmad.

Tiger has fiddled with his swing so much over the years it is letting him down.

Which is why he's changing it again to include more S&T. One of the advantages of S&T is that it simplifies the body movement.

At the moment, or at least when Faldo did that piece, Tiger was fatting it more than he's done since puberty. Hence the change in his swing.

In the 80's and 90's Faldo was as long as anyone, but he was straight and consistant. He never lost his swing over the whole of his career.

What he lost was his putting. That's what stopped him being competitive, not the fact he is shorter than Tiger.

I think it's fair to critique Tiger's swing this year - it has let him down badly.

But once he gets his head straight, and gets back on the practise range, and actually tries to get better, rather than just playing with whatever swing turns up on the day. Well, that's when we'll see a tad more consistancy in his swing again.

It's a decent swing. As it's the same as mine, only mine is 3.6 x as slow, I'm saying nuffin.

(don't worry, I'm getting more pills today, I promise)

:)

Interesting clip. Didn't notice the commentator mention Tiger dropping the club at the end of his swing.

Faldo was never a favourite of mine but I do feel he is probably as knowledgeable about the golf swing as any ex-pro. Much as I wanted Norman to win, I always loved the fact that in the last round at the 1996 Masters (at the 15th I think) Faldo apparently didn't fancy the lie for a 5 wood...so he took a 2 iron... and nailed it. Respect!

Looks like that vid was posted in June. Can't say that Tiger's form since then suggests he has got his swing working, although I know his putting has been pants too.

Can't say I'm anti-Faldo either purely based on his record as a golfer but the guy made some interesting comments and it was quite weird to hear someone rant so much about an 'icon' of the game... and watch out Johnny Miller! :)

Read the thread title and was hoping it was a real have a dig at Faldo....I would have been right up for that as he's not a favourite of mine, quality golfer but IMO a jobby of a man.

Would it be fair to say that Faldo was so committed to the whole Leadbetter rebuild that he expects all players to show the some of the same technique? Tiger's swing has never been as reliable as many other players but there's more than one way to a great long game.

:D Geeky I know but it was a 2 iron on the 13th after a decent drive. What did Phil hit from in the trees this year? 5 iron, 6 iron.
Faldo was short, especially for his size.

Oh no he wasn't.

:p

Says it all.

Mickleson is wild, especially for his talent. ;)

Faldo wasn't short in his time, about average I would say. His game was built on accuracy and control so I don't think he ever tried to welly it. He would be short by today's standards true. But you can't really compare him to the likes of Mickelson. Faldo used a wooden driver with a steel shaft for most of his career. I think he used a T-Zoid metal driver when he won in 96. I used to have one of those. It had a tiny head compared to today's monsters.

I agree, steel head and shaft, twice the weight and shorter than todays drivers. Can't remember if he used the Rextar ball then but whatever it was can't be compared with the modern ball for distance.
He was shorter than the big hitters of his day but he hit it long enough to win 6 Majors and be no.1 in the World for a time.
