Has your course hollow tined yet?

It's a choker but it must be done.

Last weekend our greens were fantastic, but on Tuesday we hollow tined and playing over the last two days has been really frustrating. Little holes everywhere and tons of sand and fertiliser to putt across.

Hopefully we'll be through the worst of it in another fortnight but isn't it awful?

Done couple of days ago.

Smiffy said my ball had just finished short of the bunker at the back of 17 today. Had to explain there is no bunker there, but it was the sand pile on the green.:ooo: Just when we need some rain it looks like it is going to be dry now.

We're on "Greens Maintenance" all week starting tomorrow.
9 will be closed for work and when that's complete they swap over.
It's going to mean some slow rounds but it needs to be done.

Ours has been done within the last week. Looks like they only used narrow tines this time as holes closing nicely. Mind you, that could just be down to all the rain we had last week.

I remember speaking with the greenkeeper at Lamlash GC on Arran, he said that they never hollow tine their greens. Must depend on how the greens were built, the type of grass and climate.

Ours must be due for hollow tining any time now as the club championship was played today.

I believe there is a rule somewhere that states "post hollow tining the amount of rainfall falling on your course is directly proportionate to the Sahara Desert during a particularly protracted drought."

Yes, our greens have been hollow tinned, sanded and fertilised in the last week. So had the greens at two away courses where we played matches. One had so much sand on the greens that it was like putting through a bunker! That time of year I suppose! :(

Our two courses were done 4 weeks ago and 2 weeks ago respectively.

A necessary evil, but within a week they were back to their beautiful best.

Done the week before last, it was miserable for a few days but they are already returning to their best. I'm no expert, but I reckon the greenkeeping staff have done an excellent job.

Ours were punched about 3 weeks ago but having played it last Wednesday I'd say that they are about the best I've ever seen them. They had been sprayed with some form of dressing though, which gave them a turquoise finish, looked a bit weird from a distance but they putted beautifully.
The whole course is immaculate at the moment. Fairways looking really good, and they have let the rough grow a little bit longer than usual. Not "ball losing" long, but enough to stop you going for the green if you're in it, so there is a massive premium for being on the cut stuff!
Looking forward to playing there again this week.

Our course is in fantastic condition, the greens especially. Two big weekends coming up, club championship, and the week after is finals day. The Monday after this, they will be drilled and cored, not just tined. They do this every year, and it banjaxes the greens for months. It's just what happens. They are old greens, and need a lot of tlc to get them good in the summer. It works though.

Like other have said, a necessary evil!
We had ours scarrified a couple of weeks ago. As such the weekend directly after we played a 4BBB then this weekend was Pro's Day, so we played a 4 man Am-Am.
People don't seen to moan as much if it isn't a qualifier.

Greens maintenance week at Whickham as well, just when the greens have been playing beautifully, best they've been, ever. Played in a county comp over the weekend and players from different clubs who never played Whickham were complimenting the club on how good the greens were.

Sadly now they'll be cover in sand, not sure if they will be hollow tined or solid tined and verticut, but whatever they did last time to get them as good as they are now, then they can only come back better once the sand has gone, unfortunately it looks like we're in for a dry spell, just when we could do with some over night rain.
