Has Wenger had the bullet yet?

Yawn Yawn Yawn

Yes, it's been a blimmin frustrating season.

Yes, we should have bought one or two players in January

Yes, we had plenty of chances to win the title and cocked them all up.

Yes, Wenger is manager and as such is ultimately responsible.

BUT

There's only two managers out there who are almost certainly better than him - Fergie and Jose. And neither of them would come to Arsenal.

All this stuff about not winning a trophy for 6 years is rubbish. We had the new stadium restricting us financially for the first 3 or 4 of them, so it's only been this last year or so where we really have been in a financial place to compete with Chelski and Utd. Utd have financed their success by gambling on driving the club into bankrupcy, and Chelsea have their very own gazillionaire.

Next season we are on more of an even keel, so that's when we can be judged.

This was/is a poor year for us. But every club bar Utd should be saying the same. And if Wenger is up for the sack, then every manager except Fergie must go too :

Chelsea should have won in Europe
Man City should have won the league
Spurs should have progressed into the top 3
Liverpool should have got back into the Champions league.

All failures

The only other succesful side in the country are Birmingham, and they're going down.

Yes, Wenger needs to look at himself, and make several changes, especially to the coaching staff, but for fans of any other Premiership club, I say put your own house in order before you start whingeing about Wenger

BAWS, he is pish and how he manages to keep bluffing his way through is beyond me. I seen his interview on the bbc website and he looks thoroughly defeated and bereft of ideas.

Spurs "should have progressed to the top 3"...?!?!?

They were close to being in relegation trouble 2 years ago!!

Thats a gooner's statement if ever i heard one and i have no vested interest in either.

I actually think spurs have done quite well to be 5th this year as expectation is tough to deal with and the champions league on top for the first time.

Come on though, his teams play some wonderfully attractive football that have pundits fawning over how great he is.....can't defend for toffee though and his teams win f##k all but hey that's okay apparently. He is that great a gaffer he hasn't managed to fill vital positions in his team despite the fact that a one eyed frog from the moon could see what positions have been needing strengthened.

Only two better??!!

Have a word with yourself for Christ sake.

there problem is the don't know how to win ugly, you can play all the pretty football you want but they've nobody with that killer instinct in front of goal.

man utd not at there best foe most of the season but they grind out results week after week arsenal can't do it. they need a keeper and a center half and a stiker who can score dirty goals some one who can take a knock ans still keep at it. wee hernandez at man utd is like that he'll pop up with minutes to go and knick a goal ,arsenal dont have it.

RVP not doing too badly on the goal front, Nasri, Fabregas, Theo, and Arshavin all know where the back of the net is too. You don't get the best away record in the league without grinding out results week after week and winning a few ugly ones along the way.

Wenger almost certainly IS thoroughly defeated and I would be worried if he wasn't, he is a born winner and hates losing...but he will be back to fight again.

Schezny is quality should not need another keeper for years to come. Vermaelan has been out all season but is a top quality CB. Agree we could do with a striker and get rid of Bendtner but we did have Vela to do that job until he asked for a transfer in the winter as not getting first team football.

He's won more than anyone in the Premiership apart from Fergie, and Jose's results speak for themselves.

Apart from them who else has won the Premiership this century?

He's not perfect, but then, who is?

What he needs is stronger support from his number two. I've heard Pat's retiring at the end of the season, and Steve Bould is favourite to take over.

Personally I wouldn't mind if someone like Stuart Robson had a go at it. He's got a mean streak a mile wide, he's an Arsenal great, he sufferered badly from injuries at a young age, and would be sure to make sure our kids don't get overexposed at too young an age.

I'm not saying that Rednapp hasn't done a great job ( although I'm still pretty sure he's bankrupt them in the long run like he did with a couple of his previous clubs ). They progressed last year into the top 4. So if they drop out of the top 4 this year it's a backward step.

I'm not saying harry should get sacked, what i'm saying is that Wenger has had a more succesful season with arsenal than harry has had at Spurs, so if Arsene goes, harry has to go too.

Which would be stupid.

There are a maximum of 4 trophies to be won every year.

We got knocked out of the Champions league by Barcalona
We lost the League cup final to Birmingham
We got knocked out of the FA cup by Utd
We lost the league by drawing/losing too many games from winning positions.

being beaten by barca and Utd is no disgrace. Birmingham outplayed us on the day, but even then it was a major cock up that gave them the winner.

So it's down to us not winning the league. Let's sack evey manager that hasn't won the league, eh.

There's definately no manager in this country apart from those two that have got a record anywhere near as good as his

I'd put money he's better than your gaffer, so why don't you worry about the league up in your neck of the woods and leave us to worry about how we're developing.

I've been an Arsenal fan for over 30 years and I've seen some pish poor football over that time. This instant success or the sack is pathetic.

We went 18 years between league titles before 1989. We will win the league again. But historically we won't bankrupt the club to do it. And I'm happy with that.

Wenger has been the cause of his own downfall. He won the league three times in his first 8 years - that was more than we'd managed in the previous 40 years.

That, in turn, raised the expectation of a lot of the fans to such incredible heights that he hasn't been able to meet them every year.

6 years without a trophy, so what? That's not a long time in the grand scheme of things. The club is still ran in a significantly better way than everybody else in the top flight. Where we've dipped out in marketing revenue over the last decade, we've certainly made up for in the increased matchday revenue.

What DOES annoy me about Wenger, is his stubborness to change a gameplan to counter his opposition. His firm belief that Barcelona can be passed off the pitch makes me scratch my noggin.

His same-same changes over the course of matches - bringing on Bendtner and throwing him on the right wing. What's that all about?

Wenger was helped out when he first arrived by having the most solid, best drilled defence i've ever seen at his disposal. That was George Graham's doing.

Wenger can spot a defender though, Vermaelen pre-injury was looking every bit like the tough, rough and ready leader we need. Koscielny, given time to develop will be a sound acquisition, Djourou has come on leaps and bounds this year too.

All is not doom and gloom. With investment, which WILL be made this Summer, we will be a lot closer.

I don't normally contribute to football threads as I know NOTHING about football, but are you still talking about the English league here? :D

Wenger's time has run, his experiment is a total failure and unless they get a couple of wins in the next four games they could lose out on a Champions League spot.

He is too stubborn to see the error of his ways and no matter what he says he will not buy a centre half, he will not buy a goalkeeper, he will not buy defensive midfielder ..... in short he will not change anything over the summer.

Its time for a change and my vote for the next Arsenal manager is "Pep" Guardiola.

How do you know it's a total failure? If the board set him the objectives of just maintaining Champions League football until the debt is all paid back - then he's met that, while not spending beyond his means.

The criticism of the bloke is beyond a joke at the minute. It's time a lot of the bigger players started taking some of the responsibility on their shoulders.

Wenger has put all his efforts into building a young team to win the league and cups ...... after six years nothing.

He set himself a target and failed to achieve that, therefore he has failed .... simples.

There are no bigger players, they are all young lads who need someone in the team with experience and who has that winning mentality.

This Arsenal team lack a core players and that is Wengers fault as he has blindly perused his experiment and developed a team who when the going gets tough, rolls over again and again and again.
