Earlier in the week he was seen testing Mizuno's new "prototype" JPX 800 but it was said on here that no way would he not use the TaylorMade driver in competition ?

However, last night's close-up of him using a driver for a "bump & run" from off the green very clearly showed a clu with a blue crown, just like the JPX 800.

As Mizuno were the first with slider technology and the variations apparently offered by this new club seem to be an advance on SLDR it might not be as unlikely as some think.

Believe he has the same leeway as Big Phil does - contract is flexible enough to allow him to "try" other clubs

Some interesting comments over on WRX regarding this. It'll need to be something special to get a place in his bag on a long term basis I'd have thought. We'll just have to wait and see ;)

Luke only has an 11 club contract with Mizuno, so is free to choose everything else. I'm not sure he had a contract with TM to provide woods, so was probably free to choose his own stuff.

He has the new JPX 850 driver in his bag this week (it's a prototype), though the fact he is using it, in such a big week of competition speaks volumes of the club's possibilities. Mizuno certainly seem to be touting this one as something that other companies R&D teams will have to catch up with. Watch this space I reckon.

the latest approved driver is the JPX850, and there are 4 versions of the JPX825.....so it's hardly going to be a prototype JPX800

put another way my money would be on an 850 :)

Yes, I game a 9° Great Dane with a stiff shaft.

Why when I read this did I get a picture of Scooby Doo, drooling over a French Poodle?

From what I've read about the new the Mizuno driver, Mizuno sent Donald the driver to test and report back on, he liked it and asked if he could use it at Sawgrass. Mizuno have said that it's just a proptotype and that many other players will be testing it as there is still some development work to be done.

Maybe out in the latter part of this year or early next.

Wonder if they will do the matching fairway clubs as well?
