Just a question guys has every club got a person nobody wants a round with and dread the sight of them?

Yep theres a couple at ours, nice enough guys but so slow it feels like youve been on holiday when you get back to the clubhouse.

We have one pair people seem to avoid, I have played with them and didn't find them too bad, but if I hadn't have been forcing conversation it would have been a very akward round. They weree very quiet, dodgy at best with the rules, no awareness of anyone else around them at all, and slow to boot.

And one bloke in particular who has a really bad reputation for slow play, played in the group behind him once, we ended up walking in after playing 13 holes in 3h 40m, his group had fallen 3 holes behind! They dismissed our 3 requests to be played through.

I don't think theres a club in the land that doesn't have one and I've the displeasure of playing with the one at both my old and current club... I swear both are like a dose of thrush!

We've got one player everyone avoids

While I'm writing ......... Is anyone looking for a game this weekend?

As with most clubs we have more than one. If, however, your comps are drawn, then there is a higher likelihood of a change in behaviour, the more people who play with them and make their feelings known. It has been known to work, although we are in the midst of a tough nut to crack.

The one in my club is like a dose of thrush also, i swear next time i am walking off the course rather than have a round with him, i play golf to enjoy and this is just not the case when he is around so there is no point in playing i am just walking around a field getting so pissed off my blood boils and my game turns to rat s@@t.. No point at all was of time, effort and energy.

We had one who was a nightmare but she has left to terrorise a new club and by the sounds of it she's doing a great job!
We have a couple of chaps who are really nice people but their golf ethics are dubious to say the least. Both regularly use the leather wedge, can't count past 5 after playing a hole and think air shots don't count!
Great company for a beer or two afterwards though.

We all started somewhere and although I don't mind chatting and enjoying the day I recently was drawn to play with one guy in a foursome and it bought a new meaning to the word murder.

How I stayed polite and calm during the round I don't know. It wasn't the fact he was slow but the faffing about before he took his swing, him never being ready to take his shot and then taking two practice swings before hitting the ball only for us to look back and find him ambling along 100 yds behind everybody else, without a care in the word when we had another four ball behind us.

Despite being the shortest hitter he was always the last to his ball.

Despite being urged by everybody else to hurry up he carried on in his own world oblivious to our and the players behind us frustrations.

To cap it off he asked where I played and next time I booked a T guess who was on in front of me on his own? You couldn't make it up!

We have one or two that drink pints of beer instead of G&T's - I try and avoid them. Then there's a few that do manual work - I try to avoid them. Then there's quite a number whose handicaps are above single figures - I try to avoid them. Then there's quite a few that obviously can't read the dress code, tweed and an orange polo just don't go together - I try to avoid them.

Seriously, I guess there's probably a few that might not be the best of company but I don't mind who I play with. It's only for a few hours...

Well said Brian

I was playing a competition round with this person that pushed me to look for another club.....during a stableford comp there was myself, a 14 year old boy and said man.

1. By the 3rd hole this man had called me a bandit.
2. On the 12th he reduced the 14 year old to tears by telling him he was disqualified for a minor rules infringement (the lad had declared to me he was taking a provisional but not to hitler on the other side of the fairway
3. On the 18th I caught him "preparing" his lie out of the rough

Since that day I haven't played at that club and wont again.

I was warned about him when I first joined but wondered how bad he could be.....

Oh yes!!!!!!

I put them in my "black book" and remember the name.

I'd like to say I'll play with anyone but time is a precious resource and 4 hours of golf with someone who is ignorant of the game and his fellow competitors is soul destroying.

We play in a 3 ball most weekend medals but if one of us can't play you fear getting one of the dreaded misfits.

I can't think of any particular individual at my club that I would avoid a game with. There's a few Koreans that are notoriously loud, and slow around the greens, but I don't think that'd be reason enough for me to not go and play.

You play with the same guys in a medal all the time..............not healthy IMO

Well said. Its only for a few hours and its not the end of the world.

That's the problem why clubs are not clubs anymore when the same guys want to play in the same 4 ball every week. How are you supposed to get to know other members.
