Has Bernie finally realised he has some stupid ideas?

Ecclestone has said his double point idea is "stupid" even though he the teams "bloody idiots" for not going for his plan along with admitting there is a financial chasm between the top teams and the rest of the field mainly due to the method employed to hand out tv money dreamt up by him.

Is Bernie finally losing his stranglehold on F1 and can anyone else fill his boots but take the sport in a better direction?

Brundle is the only man in the sport that could turn around F1, but I don't think he would be given the respect needed by the "old" heads.

What F1 needs to stop is the constant changing of goal posts. It cost circa £300m for Merc to develop its engine. Thats just mad!

I'm not so sure about that to be honest as Merc are a major engine supplier in the sport which will help recoup a lot of the cost of developing the best engine in the sport at the moment plus it's this kind of technological advancement that seeps down into the road car of the future. With the milage, power to weight ratio and longevity of the engine it won't be long before a road car is using an engine directly derived from the current turbo F1 engine.

If you saw the interview with Bernie at the last GP he basically admitted he had missjudged how to allocate the money to the teams with the top 5 teams who could guarantee they would still be in the sport in 2018 (I think) getting massive financial benefits. Wrong on every level and there wouldn't be one team already having gone bust and another one on the brink if he has given the cash out far more evenly.

Merc have said it has cost them circa £300m to develop, how they recoup that money was not discussed. It's an engine that did not need to be developed. There was nothing wrong with the V8's.
It may be inline with what is happening in the global market but F1 is the pinnacle of Motorsport, it shouldn't have to come inline with any EU guidelines/bollocks/tosh.

As in Martin? The commentator, ex driver and ex manager of DC? Where would you get the idea that he is the only one who could turn F1 around? Fair play he's a smart bloke and knows about a lot of the in and outs of F1 but there is no way on gods green earth that I can see him having the capability to run a multi billion dollar industry. Simply wouldn't happen. Eddie Jordan would have more chance.

F1 is huge. It's unbelievably huge! This goes way more than just talking to the current teams and trying to placate them, but it puts entire governments over a barrel when it comes to which races are in each year.

There is only one person I could name to run it after Bernie and that would be Jean Todt who has knowledge of running a team, knows current team principals and knows the media and runs the FIA.

He has an untainted view for F1, something that is more driver orientated rather than engine/car/budget based. The Top man of F1 should not be a business man, he has people around his to help with the 'business' side.
The best F1 races you see are the ones where all teams are fighting, not just a Red bull/Merc/fezza run away. In my eyes this can be best delivered by an Ex F1 driver.

Of course the top man should be a business man. Where would it be without Bernie having stepped in and have the business vision and acumen to change F1 to what it is today. No matter what you might want F1 to be it is a business first and foremost, not a sport. If you want it to be more of a sport then you might as well try to resurrect the A1 GP series.

I'll grant you, Brundle is one of the people who should be reporting to the "Head Honcho" but he shouldn't be running the show.

Would you want Gary Lineker to take over Fifa (although that's probably a bad analogy at the moment.....)?

Bernie is a muppet. He's an old man that has lost touch with the sport.
"F1 does not need young fans"
"I'd rather get to the 70-year-old guy who's got plenty of cash. So, there's no point trying to reach these kids because they won't buy any of the products here and if marketers are aiming at this audience, then maybe they should advertise with Disney"
"Nobody will miss’ Marussia, Caterham in F1"
Just a few quotes that the vile little man has spewed out in recent weeks. Bernie would sell his dead mother if he could make money from the deal. A business man yes, the leader of a HUGE global organisation he is not.

Honest answer is yes. From reading his tweets and articles he's written he has more good ideas and understands the game more than the those high up in FIFA ever will.

So a few quotes of an old man who still gets it right? That still doesn't make Martin Brundle anywhere near qualified to run F1.

Would F1 still be running if it wasn't for Bernie? Certainly in nothing like it's current form. Would you really want Martin running F1? What about Derek Warwick who has more involvement in the actual running and management of the races? Or is it just that he's not the guy you see on TV.

What do you want F1 to be? Something for the young fans who have no money to spend - go watch go-karting or BTCC (who's cars also cost several millions of £'s). Or to be the forefront of motor racing! Which will always cost money and will require investment. Who do the teams aim at the sell their cars? Ferrari, Mclaren, Merc etc... all a young persons first car....

Bernie knows his market and he knows how to sell F1. It's selling "the dream" to old people who can afford it, but also selling "the race" to those who can't. You might not like it, but it's true. t

But this is still not about Bernie. Bernie has taken this sport to where it currently is and this is about Martin Brundle. The person you think is the one to move F1 to the next stage. And in that point, you are massively wrong.

As we are on a golf forum, I'll put this into similar golfing terms:

Tim Fincham is leaving the PGA Tour - to replace him you want to pick Nick Faldo/Mark Roe/Colin Montgomerie/David Feherty *delete as appropriate. They are all past winners of their sport who are still respected (????) by many in their profession and are current commentators in the field.

Would you want any of those to have control over the largest and most powerful golf tour in the world?

How can you respect a man who make his living by having to resort to trying to grab sound bites from people trying to prepare for a race or minor celebs standing around hoping to "be seen"

It's embarrassing and makes me cringe.

Eccleston has been bad for F1 for the last few years in my opinion and is old and tired and just holding on to accumulate more money he doesn't need. The demise of Marussia and Caterham and the loss of all the jobs involved shows how much of a chasm there is in the sport. No idea who takes over or what they do to change but I lost interest in the whole circus a long time ago and would rather watch touring cars all day where at least driver skill and not who has the most money to throw at engines and technology is still seen as important
