Is the ground softening up with the sun at all during the day? I am trying to work out if it is worth playing tomorrow.

Thanks

Al

i would say this weekend will be a write off. its going to get colder! my lawn was solid all day yesterday, no ammount of sunshine was going to soften it. and its even colder today and forecast to get colder still...

Playing in frost is better than not playing at all IMO.

I've not been out since the 2nd of Jan, so frozen or not, I'm playing tomorrow! (Plus, I'd feel a bit rude not bothering to turn up since Swinger is making the trip up!)

This is the first morning this week we've had a frost. Last two mornings its been -2/3 with no frost. Most odd.
Sun is shinning and frost has all but disappeared. Will be heading out tomorrow even if its solid, its makes the working week a little easier knowing your playing at the weekend

played with chrisd/scottjd1 on wednesday, although it was fun conditions were tuff.

Green staff were blowing snow from the greens with leaf blowers, but generally it wasnt that bad. the current tmp outside is 0* and our garden may aswell be paved its that hard, but it gets little sunlight, im also contemplating a sunday lay in instead of the swindle.

trying to keep warm or work out how high the bounce will be off frost isn't my idea of fun, hit the range and work on some drills, you'll only need a couple of layers also as opposed to looking like the Michelin man on the course- my toes HATE the cold also

Played a couple of times this week. The ground is like concrete till after lunch. then the top layer defrosts leaving the greens feeling like gravy covered brick. It's fun, but not particularly conducive to good scoring. Play if you're with a few mates, otherwise, head to the range.

Ye I am with my buddy and I think he could use the love to maybe we will go an just be social. The way I am hitting my driver at the mo with the added hard ground I might just carry my driver and a couple of wedges! :one::one::one::one::one::one:

Played wednesday mid morning, ground was hard all the way round putting on frozen greens was interesting to say the least. Still as others have said, better than no golf at all. Will play tomorrow assuming it doesn't snow overnight.

It's easy to keep warm. Under armour, polo, wind jumper and waterproof jacket on top (all thin layers and don't constrict the swing) and compression leggings, trousers and waterproofs on the bottom and two pairs of socks.

Add to that a pair of mittens with hand warmers in and your laughing.

I am hoping to get down to short sleeves!!

Or alternatively, you could just grow a pair of balls. ;)

played on wednesday - 2 - 3 degrees, main difficulty was the variance between ground still rock hard and that exposed to the sun which was somewhat mushy. also, very difficult to get tees in on some areas so mainly first shots off the ground. enjoyable wander around and i managed 15 1/2 holes before deciding i had had enough. might play again sunday if no snow.

Played yesterday at 14:50. Ground was just soft enough to not bounce like crazy. No give in the ground for my slightly too stiff shafts so warmed fingers and sore wrists.

GIR count 'improving' - 6! Sandy par on last and snaky 20-odd footer for par elsewhere were highlights.

2hrs 05 for 18 holes so kept warm by walking quickly.

Just back from playing APGC this morning.
-5 at tee-off (9,25), everything solid as a rock.
Finished about 12.30ish and it was maybe just about thinking about softening up a little but not much.
Another hard frost tonight so I can't see it being any different at AVGC tomorrow.
Saturday night it's going to snow so lie in on Sunday........
