Yes sir I have on a few occasions,it is not a links course as you would imagine a true Scottish type links to be.
As I remember the first two holes out from the club house are on a parkland type layout ,you then cross quite a busy main road and onto the cliff tops.
This part of the course is semi linksified for the next six or maybe seven holes,it does however afford some excellent views over the south bay and castle area.
You then cross back over the road and play the final loop of holes ,the eighteenth is right outside the clubhouse.I really enjoyed playing there ,the staff were friendly and the food excellent,it was a hot summers day the last time I was there so drinks outside were also enjoyed. As to tips on how to play it ..just as you would any other parkland course ,but the ball will run further on the cliff top stretch as it was a different and harder wearing variety of grass to the more lush meadow type on the inland holes.
If you wre building your hopes up to play a links course this is not it but a good course non the less and I hope you have an enjoyable day.
Cheers heathcliffe and yes i was pining my hopes on it been a true links course but there we go.However the comp is meant to be a big one so should still be a good day there is still places its a open pairs comp on the 4th of may.
Sorry Connor I misled you the first three holes are before you cross the road. Then seven along the cliff tops before the last eight back inland.
They have a good website which is worth a look. All the best on the comp day
Yes iv been on it and looked on the history bit which says they were commissioned to make a links course or as it states a "golf links and lawn tennis scheme" so i thought this would mean it was a links course but maybe not cheers heath.
My teaching pro works part of the time at south cliff, half and half with my club. From what i hear it's a nice course. Beware of major winds, last week he said that it was impossible to tee a ball up there, they have had to get lock in flags so they don't blow off the clifftop!
