Just reading about Tigers ex caddy being a slave.
when I was a kid, I don't know how but ended up at Sherwood golf course having cycled for half an hour through Sherwood Forest.
Whilst there I asked if I could caddy. I sat there for an hour and eventually this guy with a false leg said get hold of these.
I was dying after nine holes but stuck at it.
At the end I was given more money than what I got for a paper round. I was hooked. I caddied for that guy for about a year and loved it in all weathers.
Anyone else caddied and not thought " am a slave" and actually enjoyed it.

my brother and i would be regulars at Piltdown gc when we were about twelve years old ,always treated well and earned a decent bob or two as well,we did it up until i left school.
my brothers usual player was a bit of a local celeb for a while as Lord Lucan was last seen at his house ,just a day before Lucan did a runner.Maxwell i think the guys name was.
I digress,
we had a pro am at our club and the visiting pro`s needed a bit of local knowledge so we were asked to caddy for them .the guy I ended up with was full of the brown stuff ,thought he knew everything and wouldnt listen to any advice offered,he kept coming up well short on his approach shots and blamed just about everyone and everything for his bad play .if memory serves he didnt break 80.and i never got paid for carrying his bag either.

quite a few guys i know caddie for visitors over the summer. Get £40 +plus tip. some have 9 or 10 bags a week.

TBH i couldn't think of anything worse than carrying some yanks bag for 5 hours.

though i have caddied for a mate at an elite scratch comp, i was bored senseless.

I think I could get into it if I knew the person and it was a comp but for randoms I think it would just make me really want to play golf.

I have done it a few times for visitors here and quite enjoyed it.

I enjoy the bit when they pay at the end more tho :D

have a great story from a friend of mine that caddies.

He had a single one day and the chap was big fat guy from Texas, had to use a buggy and his pretty young wife drove the buggy for him.

well he was terrible and Murdo is a reasonable player and gave the guy some good tips, turned out this chap was a rather wealthy and according to his wife one of the richest men in Texas. so all the way round they were telling Murdo what a great caddie is was and how he should come over to the states. so after the game they invited him for a a drink and as he was getting up to leave after more smoke being blown up his bum by the pair of them. the guy say to Murdo, here's a little something extra for you....

and handful of change that came to about 64p:rofl::rofl:

I was a boy caddy from 8 years old to 14.
During that time I was a regular caddy for a former British women's champion. I also also caddied for quite a few former Scottish champions and internationals.
I leaned a lot about playing shots and the thinking part of golf from those players.
Aged about twelve I once caddied three rounds in one day. In those days under 3 hours for 18 holes was the norm. 22/6d for a days work I was a very tired millionaire!
As an adult I would occasionally caddy for the our Pro in Competitions. I used to try and caddy for my duaghter if she reached the latter stages of the women's County Championship. Perhaps that is why she has never won, she has lost about six finals and umpteen semi's.

why do you think he was rich.:p

Done it a good few times. Two or three times in pro events, once in Open final qualifier - felt the pressure, and I wasn't even hitting the ball.

Done it a few times and made some not bad money on my days off, mate is a caddy at Kingsbarns and makes no bad money in the summer also gets a week caddying when the Dunhill is here. Its was ok and had some not bad players, but try telling them they can't hit 9 irons 150 yards into a 3 club wind is the bit they don't like when it come down 40 yards short

:D Yeah, I've done a bit! either between contracts/jobs and it was even 'the daily grind' for a while! Normally great fun and you meet all sorts of different types - a few 'names', Billionaires (one was trying to prevent a civil war in Sudan during the round!), folk on a Corporate jolly or Charity event and plenty of guys simply on a trip playing top courses! Only done half a dozen rounds or so this year though - the 'proper' job keeps getting in the way of such fun!

Club caddying is a world apart from Pro caddying! I've done a small amount of tournament work (Couple of Seniors Opens and Qualifying and last year's Palmer Cup) and the adrenalin rush can be immense!

Did a lot around Coombe Wood as a kid and did a few celebrity pro ams. Treated well by everyone I carried for and got some decent cash including tips. Not sure I'd do it now unless I was going to go to Wentworth or Sunningdale. I know a few who carry there regularly and although it can be hard at this time of year and in the winter, they seem to enjoy it and make a decent enough living
