We're going on our annual golf trip to scotland again next year after a very good trip to Turnberry/ayr this year.

The 4 courses we are playing are

Powfoot GC
Pitlochry GC
King James IV
Gleneagles

Has anybody played these and what's your honest opinion of them.

I know none will compare to Turnberry but hey ho.

Thanks

Played Pitlochry & King Jimmy's. Enjoyed em both. Walked one of the Gleneagles courses, whichever they play the Jonnie Walker on, and was impressed.

i've played all th courses at gleneagles and they are good but of late the condition has been a little bit poor.they need to get them upto scratch.

Have played all bar Powfoot.

King James VI suffers badly with the wet. Some holes down the bottom of the island are really quite bad. Its a shame because it is a really nice course.

Gleneagles - I would recommend either the Kings or Queens over the Centenary course.

Pitlochry, nice course and setting - you should enjoy it.

Can't say anything re Powfoot but depending on the time of year / conditions at the time you are coming up I would be tempted to subsitute King James VI for either Alyth, Muckhart or Kinross.

Another vote for the Kings at Gleneagles over the ryder cup course (PGA), but haven't played the Queens.

Hit as near to the flag as possible on the 18th if you play the Kings, it is the biggest (single) green I have ever seen. It was twice the size of an 18 yard box, I think my first putt was about 40 yards long!!!

Have played both Pitlochry and King James. Only played King James the once. Didn't float my boat, as too many "up and down" holes. Pitlochry is fantastic. A "theatre in the hills" the pro at Lamberhurst used to call it, and he wasn't wrong. Stunning scenery.
Another vote for Alyth as well. Lovely course. I'd personally ditch KJ in favour of it, and wouldn't miss out on Pitlochry for the world.

Played Powfoot a couple of years ago Its Ok that is about all I can say to be honest I was disapointed with the course.

Hi Stuart,
What time of the year are you planning for your trip?

Thanks for the replies lads, we're coming up the 2nd week in june so hopefully the courses should be in good nick.

We are playing the PGA at gleneagles.

A warning if you are going to King James and are expecting to use a cart bag and a trolley. The only access to the course is on foot via the railway bridge. Carrying all your clobber up and down 3 flights of stairs might not be a good idea. Look at http://g.co/maps/yw579 to see what I mean.

If your heading up that neck of the woods try and visit Forfar GC, real old fashioned style golf course in great condition, but like other comments on here, Alyth is a must, and give King James a miss.

Never did get to play Forfar while we were up there. Drove by it a few times and kept meaning to book it up. It looked really nice from what we saw of it. We only ever visited Alyth once, but I can still remember quite a few of the holes, it was that good. The 5th hole there (par 4) is pick of the bunch, one of the best par 4's I have played anywhere.
