Has anybody else

I played yesterday and thought about this thread when a few well struck shots came up short.

Is golf in winter conditions a truer picture of your real ability? I'm starting to think it is after seeing a driver hit right out of the middle finishing many yards short of where it did a couple of months ago.
 
I think that most gold balls operate at an optimum temp, so whatever deg below that the ball flys further.

We usually find up here that changes in air pressure and temp effect the distance by upto 2 club lengths sometimes.

At the moment i'm down about half a club and once we start getting really cold temps it will be down some more.
 
The temp is at least half what it was, the air is thicker and we wear more clothes, of course it will be shorter.

I remember watching the Johnny Walker at Gleneagles in September and seeing the prestigous distances the tour pro's that normally average 290 off the tee all hitting 235yd drives with no run...
