Following on from part of Mike's job application process, I was thinking whether an equipment launch has ever really 'stood out'. I suppose that TM moving to white drivers was a new thing and caught my attention but other than that I cannot really think of any that would spring to mind. Maybe when the bigger headed drivers or even metal headed drivers started being produced there may have been a bit of a stir and I can remember my dad and brother talking about the Wilson Fatshaft on release but I did not play golf in those days.

For me I see pictures and comments in GM but those are all much the same 'this is our new club, this is what it does' and nothing that I would class as a real 'bells and whistles' launch. You also hear about press launch days on twitter etc that seem to try and do something to grab the attention but this does not really filter down to the public.

So, has an equipment launch ever really stood out?

I will be honest, they all morph into one for me. They spout all these numbers and show some pro smashing it but it just all looks the same to me.

I would never ever just buy a club off seeing one of them launches. I would have to have a hit with a few clubs and see what works best.

Which was the one that had the little fold out cardboard thing that came free with the magazine some time ago? Whatever that was, not that one......

I remember being in love with the Mizuno Domino adverts, but that was many many years ago...

I would think that the Pro v1 launch did. You couldn't get hold of them for love nor money at the time and they were the talk of golf

TM have done it a few times, remember the 300 series drivers that came out ten years ago ? The other one was probably the ProV1 in it's first incarnation. Can't remember how long ago, but certainly about 10 -12 years ago now.

Equipment launches is mostly about media coverage these days. Some of the manufacturers have done some good adverts for their kit recently - I always thought the Callaway advert for the original Razr Fit driver was really good. That was the one shot on the Bellagio waterfalls in Vegas, The Nike "No Cup is Safe" advert was also pretty damn good although that was more around the Nike Golf brand then it was a club

The one that sticks out for me is the Nike ad, i think titled 'I am Tiger Woods' ...

No I'm Tiger Woods!

A few Advertising campaigns have stuck out, but actual product launches maybe not.. The Taylormade #IER was one (especially Sean O'Hare and Johnson Wagnerierererer), rory and tiger "any cup" have both been good.

I'd still go with Pro v1 I don't remember any advertising but I do recall everyone talking about how far the went, our pro had to ration supplies.

And the extra yardage you got if you had the pro v 1 printing lined up vertically on the sweetspot ;)

Big Bertha was the one that caught my eye at the time - first of the "bucket on a stick" clubs - although now no bigger than a 3 wood!!!! :)

I have always enjoyed the Nike campaigns, mostly just entertaining without silly claims.

This is perhaps my favourite :D

I remember being in the pro shop and someone asked for a sleeve of them. The pro said " I'm sorry I'm out of them at the moment" but pointing at me "if you follow him round you'll find a fair few"
