I have no sympathy with the sleeze,, but why haven't any of the "major" female actreses said anything before now instead of keeping quiet and waiting for the whole sordid details to come out?

If you need to ask you clearly have a terrible lack of both empathy and imagination.

However, just as one example, it's been a few days since this all came to light and the first thread posted on here is having a go at the victims.

No, I'm not having a go at the victims. I wonder why there seems to be so many who knew about it, including the more"headline" actresses but nothing was said till now..thats my point or question.

What raised my eyebrows last night was at one film awards night a couple of years ago, the five women nominees pictures were put on screen. The host said summat along the lines of " now these five have made it, they no longer have to pretend to like Weinstein". The question now being asked is " How long have others known what he has been like".
IF found guilty, I would like to see him put away for a long time. Having said that, his wife and everyone that has worked closely with him have dropped him like a brick, so they must think there is substance to the accusations.

Same with Jimmy Saville. Apparently people knew what was going on and even though some of his victims came forward straight away nothing was ever done at the time.

It doesn’t matter if you become famous or never did or are just a normal everyday person, someone actually being abused or propositioned by predators like him can be made to feel ashamed or believe they did something wrong and don’t think the authorities will believe them as in most cases it would be one persons word against another, and if that person has a degree of power or influence, they keep these acts of assault to themselves, until someone else breaks ranks then as we’ve seen in recent incidents over the years, many more victims then come forward.

I think he’s finished, he’ll go to jail if convicted of any of the charges and will be dropped by an industry that has fed his appetite as a predator and that industry will want to right that wrong by casting him out.

Totally understand why people have not come forward and exposed him. however there are people saying that he/it is the tip of the iceberg. If that is the case then others should now be named.

The answer to the original question is it is about power. Male or female, power gives people control. In this case Weinstein had the power to kill a career so people kept quiet. No doubt women who heard the rumours tried to avoid being alone with him, kept him at arms length etc but knew they were likely to have to deal with him at some point in the film industry.

I've heard the same from people over the years, watch out for person x, they have wandering hands. Those people with wandering hands have one thing in common, they are the boss, the top dog, the person who can block your promotion, get you sacked. Who are people supposed to complain to? Very difficult. A relative of mine worked for a bloke who was an absolute bully. Horrible man but he brought in big money for his firm so they allowed his behaviour. They didn't want to lose that money so complaints were brushed away.

Before people think this is an entirely male thing, it is not. Female bosses may, or may not, make sexual advances on their employees but they can bully just the same.

The hope is that cases like this will make it increasingly unacceptable for those industries where this behaviour still exists to continue. As others have said, there will be a lot of nervous people in Hollywood right now. This could be their Saville / DJ moment.

Hmmm, and it seems that may well now be the case with an Amazon exec now being put on leave

Tashy, hopefully the climate is ripe for people to come forward and these bullies can be exposed. Sometimes you need one big event to change a culture. Hopefully this is it for a lot of people.

LT. Sometimes you have to be careful what you post what with false news etc becoming the norm. But i think you are spot on. Hopefully the “brush of truth” can sweep through the hollywood cesspit.

Specifically didn't mention any names but you are right to give a warning. It may well be that not every accusation against Weinstein is true but the weight of evidence is suggesting enough are so he is in big trouble. There is a chance for some score settling to happen now, not just against Weinstein, so each case will need to be examined by authorities.

The frightening thing is that this has been going on for decades and almost in plain sight. Think how the idea of the 'casting couch' has become part of Holywood culture and for a long time appeared to be the accepted norm. There is going to be a lot more coming out of this I am sure.

Call me sceptical, but someone is going to make a film ( and a few quid ) outta this one day.
