Harrington staying with Wilson

a lot of their club heads feature custom grinds which are done specifically for that player.

MacGregor offer a deal where they will get your clubs made by the guy who did Olazabal's, but it costs an extra £3000. I guess you also need to know what you want done to them.

There was a rumour going round that Poulters Cobras cost $20,000 a set. Must be made from gold.

I thought Padraig would re sign with Wilson. He seems to be fairly loyal to all his sponsors. Decent bloke Harrington.

As Murph says Paddy is a decent bloke who honours loyalty. And anyway, he's just won 3 Majors with Wilson gear - he'd be a fool to change equipment now.

lets face it he doesn't need the money so he could sign for whoever gives him the support and kit the works for him.

Good on yer Padraig - Its good to see loyalty these days

If it aint broke don't fix it!

He's used Wilson equipment to good effect over the last 10 years and has progressed to the current lofty position of holding two of the Majors at the dsame time. Not many have been able to brag about that (other than Mr Woods)

His loyalty to Wilson over the years has been very noticable. Hope thay have some more sucessfull years partnership in the future.

Didn't I read a letter from one of the golf mags pleading with Harrington to stay with Wilson? The quoted failed moves by several golfers from one manufacturer to another, e.g. Woosnam, after winning the Masters, moved from Maxfli to Maruman and couldn't hit them.

I get the feeling Harrington isn't as motivated by cash as the rest of the herd. Staying with Wilson is entirely in character. Besides which, I can't imagine their sales are down from 2 years ago (despite the recession).

Don't you believe it. Do you think he is endorsing their product for nothing?
I grant you he could/would have made more by switching allegiance but he will still be handsomely rewarded by Wilson.
I agree he is showing loyalty, no one could argue that point and good on him, but don't suggest that money isn't a motivation.
It was only a couple of years ago that the soccer AM team had the t-shirts emblazoned with him wanting his own jet.

I wasn't having a "POP" just stating that money will have played apart in his decision.
I would imagine that his loyalty has been rewarded by an increase in his payment.
It is surprising and refreshing that he has chosen to stay with them.
As others have stated, many winners have gone on to bigger and better brands only to "Bomb"

One of the other refreshing observations from the tour is that Westwood wears Dunlop gear when i'm sure he could have made more elsewhere.

Why do you think they are so different? Shafts yes maybe but to be honest most use Project X which anyway can get if they want......so that leaves the grip and the head.......?

Just from stories I have heard / read of the amount of time it takes to custom fit a professional, and the detail they go into. Nick Faldo was suppose to be the worse.

I think it speaks volumes for the type of guy Harrington is. He is fiercely loyal, to his staff (caddy, trainer, coach etc) and to his sponsors and obviously Wilson in particular.

I know he will be paid big bucks to use their gear but I am sure other big players like TM and Nike wou;d have thrown even more money at him to switch. He obviously trusts the equipment which is so important to a top pro and he can now concentrate on completing the Paddy Slam

I agree, there would be no point switching just for money if you couldn't play with the clubs.
If he had switched and not featured in the running for tournaments they would drop him like a stone

How many times has a Pro moved to new sponsors only to sink into the doldrums. Ernie did hee haw when he left Titleist for Callaway. Monty has jumped ship when he should have stayed put and even Paul Lawrie chased the Callaway $ when he left Wilson. I read somewhere that Callaway would have to sell 60,000 full sets of clubs just to pay Phil Mickelsons wages for his 3 year deal.

I did say a few months ago when this was first discussed that Harrington is loyal to his sponsors-hes a grounded individual and with a large family he will be kept that way.

Of course Wilson will pay him more as he is a triple major winner.

As others have said other players left their manufacturer after some success and failed to sparkle.

Plus at Wilson Harrington is top dog whereas at TM or Callaway he would be vying with others for top spot.

Am I not right in saying that half of Harrington's gear is not even wilson? For example his odyssey putter his vokeys and his pro Vs. Would any other brand allow him this versatility? (I dont know of many taylormade golfers that use any other gear? correct me if I'm wrong!). Anyway I think its brilliant that he's stayed with them these not so popular makes need a break against the titleists and callaways of golf.

Sometimes its betther the devil you know - or what ever thet saying goes like. Perhaps Wilson are a good company to work for - I never understood loyalty until I was about 20. I filled the car with pertol and drove off (not in purpose). A few days later I was in the shop and the owner handed me an invoice and told me that I had only paid for my bacon bap that morning. He had set up an account for me and told me if I am in a rush just fill up beep twice and he will do it again. I never went anywhere else until I moved out of the area. I got fuel in the mornings no queue etc he got a good reliable coustomer - win win.

I thought harrington uses wilson staff wedges, dont remember seeing vokeys in his bag? Perhaps im wrong.

I know he uses a Taylor-Made 3-wood and odyssey putters but then a lot of pro's have separate putter deals anyhow.

He is a big advocate of the Pro-V, surprising given how good the DX2 Soft is but then at his elite level, the ball is so important and he knows what he is doing so there must be a darn good reason for using the pro-v.

As a side, A lot of golfers use other manufacturers gear to an extent, Tiger uses a scotty cameron putter for example, also you have the likes of casey who uses all nike except for his Adams Idea 3 wood. There are many more examples of this, Jeev Milka Singh uses old Ping Zing2 wedges that he has had for years. Obviously they just dont shout about it much.

There was also the rumour taht Tigers irons are infact Mizuno blades that have been doctored to show a nike logo. I dont give this any credibility though.

It is probably just a matter of staying in his comfort zone with people he knows around him. Why change a winning formula. No doubt there will be more cash involved in this latest deal though.
