It doesnt have to be in county comps or anything big... Although they qualify as well.....

For me it was when i was playing Pierce Purcell and my foursomes partner put me over the back of a par 4 green with his shot.... There was about 40 people around this particular hole and when i had reached the ball it was buried in about 6" of rough over a raised mound area.....
I had noticed that when i took my stance i was standing on a service cover for the sprinkler system but it was cracked.... So after a bit of a hold up and deliberating i called for a referee to see what options i had.... By his time the crowd gathered a few more bodies and it was getting a little nervy.....

I managed to get a free drop but still had to drop in the heavy rough where again the ball sat down..... The highest lofted wedge i had was a 56 degree vokey and i knew i couldnt mess it up.... The flag was perched about 30ft away from me and about 6ft above a tier that if the ball caught it, it was lights out and a run off of about 60ft or so...... but as i was so far below the green i could only see the first 3 ft or so of it.....

I focused on what i wanted to do.... Stepped back into the rough... Took a few practice swings and dispatched a shot that went straight up in the air and pitched about 8ft my side of the pin and rolled into about 3 ft...... We won that particular hole and i got a round of applause for my troubles from the spectators....

Iv played football in front of probably 2000 people in a big Semi Final and i never even felt the same sense of nervousness as i did in front of that 40-50 people that morning......Its ridiculous what a few people looking at you can do....

I won a Competition a few years back to play with Rooter's new best mate Howeller in a 5 hole scramble at Bearwood Lakes.
First tee (10th) and there's 20-30 people stood around gawping, a Tour Pro and.......Sky cameras including, as she was then, Di Stewart.

No pressure then.

Found the fairway and got my drive out of the way on the first hole..

Nice.... Id have been more nervous the fact Di was there.... She's a BABE:o:o

Simple 9-iron shot, but over water, from middle of fairway on 18th of Les Bordes having registered and made it round with the same ball - so entry in 'The Gold Book' if successful.

Probably most adrenalin fueled moment in sport, having had a few. Much easier to notice it in 'dead-ball' instances. Shaky fine in-off for, successful, century break in billiards was next buzziest one.

Today in a Vet's (or Seniors depending on your Club) comp against another Club.
A 4' putt for the hole.
Im off 28, the other three are between 11 and 15.
I'm ready to stroke when my partner says "We're three down - don't **** this up"
(It actually made me smile)

These comps are extremely sociable and friendly with lots of banter, but........... :ooo:

tee shot at beau desert on the 1st, 1st ever forum meet and out in the 2nd group, fortunately hit it ok and birdied he hole :)

2nd one has to be the 1st @ Wentworth with my brand new R1, road to clear and the GM cameraman poised ready to catch me top it. It wasn't pretty but done the job

Like Gibbo, the first at Wentworth West course with a brand new driver, 3 guys i have never played with before, 2 guys from Golf Monthly, TM tour rep and TM Marketing girl (who plays off 5 iirc) GM Photographer filming, the 2 old boys starting, and god knows how many people watching on from the car park. Lucky i didn't wear my white troo's! Managed to bang mine over the road and on to the fairway a good way up! so i was well chuffed! had visions of it not getting over the road!!

I have 2.

Walked on to the last tee 2 over par. It's a 230yd uphill par 3, OOB all up the right. I knew I was on a good score, though I didn't know exactly. Tried to hit a hard one, figuring that I'd have less trouble if I played a shot I had to commit to. Hoiked it left into boondocks :o

The other one is the 2nd shot at the same hole ;) The tee shot had left me unable to see the green and with a big mound to go over. A month earlier, from roughly the same place, I'd flown one right over the green and ended up losing a match. So I took my 60*, concentrated on making good contact and knocked it up to 8 feet. Drained the putt for par and a round of 71 :)

Tee shot on 1st at Royal Birkdale (OOB and old railway line tight to the RHS). Intra-company business unit foursomes stableford competition with me and my buddy representing my business unit. Big audience and being video'd for showing later. Me and buddy had thundering hangovers as we had been up until 4am trying (and failing) to get off with a couple of very attractive (through beer goggle specs) bar staff of the Scarisbrick Hotel in Southport (where company had put us up). And the repeat play on the Juke Box that night was 'Funkytown' by Lipps Inc. (indelibly stamped on my memory :))

btw I hit a reasonable tee shot and I think we bogied the hole - but 2pts with a shot! Total for round...17pts :)

Almost a year to the day, putting out on the par5 9th (my 18th) at Le Touessrok for 2 points

No special comp, no audience, no need for pressure, in fact was just playing as a single with wife in tow but it was the first time I managed to go round blob free, scoring on every hole for a 40 point round (20 out 20 in)

I had the shakes for about 10 minutes after :D

The last putt at the GM Powerplay event at the Grove a while back. It was only a couple of feet but it was the most nervous I've been over a golf shot because I thought I had a decent score and missing the putt would give me -ve points for the hole.

Good ones, I would say it’s a choice of two.
First was in a mixed pairs match to reach the semi-final, and we were all square on 18th tee. We decided to take my partner’s drive, and the plan was to lay up down the neck of 18th (water on left and path and small pond on right). I was a good bit back, so suggested I’d simply play down with a 4-iron, which should roll nicely down and end up 15 yards from the green.
I ended up ripping the 4-iron slightly further left than I planned, it sailed over the water and finished 8 foot from the hole! With check!

Second would be on the 1st tee at St Andrews, with no real crowd to speak of, but the starter and a caddy watching on. The sheer history and thoughts of who’d gone before me were not so much pressure as just plain amazing. I striped a 2 hybrid right down the middle, and that got a polite, “lovely shot, sir” from the starter. He’s seen enough tee shots in his time, so I was dead chuffed. Ended up birdie-ing it too!

Hardest shot recently was in a Pro-Am at The Addington, where there was an announcer with speakers, broadcast back into the clubhouse. “First on the tee, from Westerham Golf Club…” and that was it! Knees went to jelly and hoicked it right, into a huge bush. Not a good one! Pin-high, mind ;)

I have none whatsoever to speak of as I play completely non-competitively for the moment. However on Oct 20th at my first forum meet, with strangers, on the first tee, I'll be absolutely cracking myself (but ssshhhhh, don't say owt)....

1st Tee shot at GM Final in FoA... MikeH, JezzE , watching on , KevinM GM Photographer snapping away, nailed it long & straight , as did our man Homer straight after me

I didnt fancy my greenside bunker shot on the 18th this Sunday at Moortown. Quite a few had congregated outside the clubhouse including the 7 other forumers. The clubhouse is right next to the 18th and the bunker I was in was facing the club house and I had lots (and I mean lots) of glass windows that were in danger...... we had joked in the morning about not fancying the shot. Que a sweet bunker shot that rolled out to a couple of feet and I made the putt for a par :) I wont mention the other boys in my group laying up on the hole though ;)

For me it was actually the tee shot on 18 realising the Irish raider and I were pretty close and I need at least two points to make it interesting. Didn't help missing the green and then facing a chip shot, my Achilles heel at the best of time with the GM crew watching on and the resident snapper clicking away. Got it vaguely near the flag and two putted for my net par. Sadly lost to the better player on countback

I was dumping it at my first forum meet at Ascot.
Longish par 3 as I remember, hit my 5 wood on to the front ot the green,
I was a 12 handicap then.
Also have seen a couple of players absolutely buckle under the pressure since.
