So the English Open at St Mellion has been postponed until after the credit crunch. Apparently the contractors who are building around the place to get the infrastructure right have stopped work - so the European Tour's cancelled it. Its set to return in 2011.

As yet there is no confirmed venue or sponsor for the British Masters due to be held in September.

So it maybe Wentworth for the PGA or The London Club for the European as the only big tournaments in England this year. Never watched at Wentworth, might have to go this year.

Looks like the crunch is starting to really hit home.

I saw this as well and was pretty shocked. I was also gutted to realise the british Masters was not going to be at the Belfry this year as I really enjoyed going to the last one.

Get down to Wentworth for the PGA if you can though- I went on the sunday last year and it was at least equal to the Belfry experience. I am definitely going again this year as well.

I've been to lots of events at Wentworth as its just down the road. My advice would be to go on either the practice days or the Thursday and Friday. It is quite an old school layout and so there are congestion spots where it can be difficult for the crowd to get by so if youa re following a particular group it can be difficult to manoeuvre your way around.

Timber you have started what I was about too. I was going to suggest that next year, Maybe the forum could meet up at the events. Who knows, we may even have golf monthly T-shirts to wear that get us in for half price :D

Good shout Tony and Timber. Only problem's going to be distance, unless the B Masters is somewhere halfway - like the Belfry was(ish).

Unless the BM is local, I'm going to go to Wentworth, probably on the Thursday - if only to miss friday traffic getting home.

lets see where the BM is to be held and maybe we can get a meet going.

Love watching Tournament Golf and try to go somewhere every year.

Not surprised the British Masters lost is sponsor---it was sponsored by Quinn Direct, whose chairman, Sean Quinn was in trouble with the Irish Financial Regulator recently over undeclared loans to directors which were used to purchase 15% of Anglo Irish Bank 6-9 months ago and now the bank has been nationalised and Quinns family are nursing significant losses.

and who also owns The Belfry......

Royal Ascot is only a 15 minute drive from Wentworth if anyone fancies a game before or after going to the golf.

I was the beneficiary of Homer's offer last year, might take you up on it again.

practice days are free (mostly), and as an official old f*rt I get in cheap anyway. I went to four last year, Wentworth - good viewing spot at the back of the 2nd green; the European at the London Club (1st day was free) - back of the 7th, Woburn for the Senior Masters and Belfry for the Masters (practice day) - 10 & 18
