So, not a great round yesterday score-wise (121 strokes)...but:

1)Best stableford points so far. (17 playing off 28)
2)Far better consistency on my strikes
3)Some much better straighter drives
4)Putting seemed to just click & dropped a couple from 6-7 ft (which would normally be 2-3putt)

What's changed?

1)Different balls. Srixon distanced replaced my Dunlop DDH
2)New glove FJ GTXtreme replaced my (slightly too big) FJ Weathersof
3)2 slight tweaks to grip & backswing after a lesson a couple of weeks ago.

As I say, not a GREAT round in terms of score or points, but for me a lot of improvement from my last game (15 pts & a 130 round). Both at the same course by the way.

Good to see you're improving, but the new balls and glove had nothing to do with it, it was all down to your lessons. Keep having them, keep practising and you'll soon be breaking 100!

Cheers Dan. It may have been just pure mind game that the glove fitted better & the balls were a better brand....but it all helped.

I have another lesson in a week or so....breaking the 100 is my goal this year. Not a huge goal, but Rome wasn't built in a day as the saying goes...

Well done mate, keep practising and anything else that keeps you positive, use

edit, Just seen Dan's reply, he's right, but if the glove and balls helped mentally then go for it.

Good to see a post with someone at the other end of the scale! You're where I was a couple of months back and it's a good feeling seeing those scores drop, even if it takes some time. It's when they start going up there's a problem.

After a 6 or 7 rounds last year starting at 144 & 4 points, & my 4th round yesterday (this year) definitely moving the right way...just got to keep the faith & the nerves....

everyone who who plays golf knows there is no fault that can't be cured with new equipment

Keep working on the lessons and drills. You are starting to see the rewards for your hard work so keep going and hopefully you'll get even more points next time and the time after that until you hit the magic 36 point mark (level to handicap) and then 37 and playing below it. It WILL happen

Cheers all.

Plugging away is going to be the only way. I know there will be no overnight miracle, It's just the p's. Practice,Patience,Playing & Practice. Oh & Patience....

Andy, I played Ballards Gore Sunday. Lovely course if you haven't been there yet. But to be honest, with the in-laws & a few mates etc we go all over. Garons, South Essex, Rayleigh, Cranham. Just where ever takes our fancy really.

The only bit of cranham that puts me off is the island green. Most wet holes elsewhere I can see past the water & avoid it. Cranham is like a magnet!!! But cheers Craggles will try & sort it soon!

ha ha i think thats why they put that one last to mess with your head.
although i duffed mine into the water saturday, onto the drop zone, stuck it to 3 ft and a putt for a 4 with a shot so im not worried about putting it in the water anymore. its all between the ears im begining to realise.

Little update....played Saturday... 112 with 21 points. was leading all the way till 17th when I lost a par the tee shot to the long cabbage, then a duffed chip, & a SLOW green compared to all the others left me with 7, & the 18th drive was good & straight but every shot after was being toed no matter what I did. Ended the 18th with 9....so so annoyed with myself for ruining a good round, but far happier with the overall.

You sound pretty excited :) - Small changes can actually make a big difference sometimes. Daft wee things can give you a confidence boost. One thing I stuck to was chipping around the greens using a 6 iron on bump and runs. It's paying off when I concentrate.

Going for my first lesson on the 18th June. I got about £150 on my birthday. I know, I'm 38, and I'm still getting birthday money, so I'm spending it all on lessons.

That's what I did with mine back in april. New glove, lessons, etc. I don't get presents anymore as I am apparently too hard to buy for...

Yeah I have persevered with the PW around the green with some fantastic results...including a 20ft chip & run lipping the cup. Didn't drop sadly but still...

Yep very excited. Out again next sunday, so let's just hope the strokes keep dropping & the points keep rising!!
