Well Im out of the cast out of the boot and back in my FootJoy's (both of them) :) but after coming off the 18th today with a dismal 26 points i felt tired, drained and just plain fed up.....

I promised myself that i would be patient with the recovery of my leg and not place any pressure on my game and just get out and enjoy myself regardless of the outcome but i just expect too much of myself i think.....

The only thing that i can say i did well today was drive the ball.....My short game crucified me.......I was only a flick of a wedge into a fair few of our par 4's but made a mess of most.....

My left leg is so tight that i cant get my knee out over my toes in the backswing and its causing me to thin all my scoring clubs :(...

I still need to rent a buggy as id never walk the 18 it would be just too much on the leg......So Im going to play again in the morning and see what that brings!.....

On the plus side i rekindled my affair with my Wilsonstaff FG Tour irons..... I got a straight swap with our club shop for my Ping i10's so im happy in that regard....I just need to get my act together now with my short game.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself, yet.

I broke my left ankle (neatly) in mid September. Was out of the boot in mid November but it's only in the past 3 or 4 weeks that I've been able to really play naturally - brain still wants to 'protect' it for some reason. And my job entails quite a bit of walking , so quite fit.

What! You mean your not playing well. You need to try harder and imagine using a sore leg as an excuse...

Glad to hear your short game is as bad as mine just now lol. Enjoy being back on the course.

Patience grasshopper! Is it worth just leaving weight on the left side and chip/run whilst flexibility is an issue? Not pretty but effective perhaps?

I can get the weight there Amanda but i physically cant bend my knee enough to get the short irons down to the bottom of the ball......
Im fine up as far as 6 or 7 iron but after that its a lottery :).... It even feels like the clubs are too small for me if that makes sense!

Buddy, in the last 6 years I've been bounced off the bonnet of a car, and I was on the pavement. Broken neck, back, shoulder blade like a jigsaw. Had 2 heart attacks and a back op. I lasted 11 holes today before the back went again.

You will experience pain on the road to recovery but you will find a new way to hit that sneaky scoring shot. I still, on a rare occasion, break par gross. Golf will give you what you put in, and if you've got the bottle and intelligence to work at it you will play to your full potential again. Be patient, and kick a$$.

Definitely got the bottle Pal....
And the funny thing is im the most patient person i know but i guess 10 weeks without being able to hit a ball have made me a little impatient....
Its a bounce round tomorrow with my Daa and my cousin before he goes back over the pond to yerselves working so we might stick on a small wager for a bit of fun!

I think you are trying too hard too quickly. Enjoy the ability to be out there at all and that you can hit some good shots and wait for everything to strengthen and improve before getting too critical and down on yourself

Glad you're out of the boot kid2.

Who says men have no patience....

On the short irons can you not play them back in your stance and just punch everything whilst you don't have the full range of movement? Almost just a shoulder turn then? Maybe not, just a thought.

I've come back to footy more times than I care to remember from bad injuries and it is very frustrating. It does come back eventually though and your mind stops protecting the leg. Hope you're back to normal soon.

Just get used to being out on the course

its all new, your body has to finish healing and may have to adjust in the meantime, all this stuff throws the swing out

so Chill man, relax, just accept that you will be re-learning the game for the next few weeks/months and you will initially have more bad days than good, but it will change, and I bet you come back a better player

just dont try to rush it

Jeez Hobbit, i take it you don't buy any lottery tickets mate:whistle: mind me never to be standing near you. Seriously though, i'm full of admiration that you've suffered all these problems and still come out fighting, my brother suffered a heart attack last October and just gave up golf instantly, i've tried getting him back out but he's just not having it. Kid, sorry mate didn't mean to hijack your thread, glad your back playing, it'll come together soon enough.

Bloody hell, I hope Smiffy has got a reserve standing by for you at Woodhall Spa.

Second thoughts you may be one of the fitter ones on the Old Farts team.:mmm:

Glad to hear your back playing Kid its a marathon and not a sprint ,the season has barely started.

Not being funny but try a chipper my brother has the same problem with weight on his left leg due to being an amputee , he thinned his pitches so he bought a chipper and lethal he is with it to.

He Steve.....See its a post like that , that makes me realize i should be thankful for what i have that i could always be worse.....Sorry to hear about your Bro.
I think ill pass on the chipper just for now though ;)

Maybe if youre struggling with the short clubs but your longer ones are good then maybe just use your longer irons but grip down only do half swings etc? Until you can swing properly again :) just be thankful that you're out there already, and look on the positive side in that if you're longer clubs are already going well then you'll soon be shooting some mean scores when your back to full fitness ;)
