Looking for you knowledgable folk to help with a dilemma.

Looking to do a decent away day late Feb or early march and have narrowed it down to these 2. Both look stunning.

Anyone played both and could recommend one over the other. Particularly bearing in mind that we'll still be in the bad course condition season.

Cheers

You can't go wrong with either, but my preferred choice would be St George's Hill, when you take into account the clubhouse etc it's just a fantastic experience I believe above Hankley.

I have only played both courses in summer so not sure which would be better in Feb/Mar, you should definitely find out in advance what course work is going on because you don't want a nasty shock with holes closed etc, St G have 27 holes and I believe they close one of the 9's in rotation through winter so worth checking out.

I have played both many times and am of the view that this is really just the toss of a coin. Both are magnificent.

For me, I would always prefer Hankley but this is based purely on personal prejudice.

Both are wonderful.

Heads or Tails......

As Snelly (and others) say, difficult choice.
Have never played Hankley during the Winter, but have played St Georges Hill when others should have been closed and always come away amazed at the condition so on that basis I think I would be heading there.

I think my personal choice would just (and only just) be St Georges Hill but Hankley does drain very very well. A mate of mine is a member and Ive played there a few times after lots of rain and its still very dry as its on sand.

Well after reading this we're all in for a real treat later in the year for H4H's 2017, more so I think the natural progression would then have to be to play H4H's 2018 at St George's Hill, [Mike] 😉👍🏌️

Easy choice for me, HanKley

Play St George's Hill end of February with a society and it is always very wet in places. HAnkley at the same time of the year is always much drier. Course wise I prefer Hankley, but ST George's Hill does have a stunning clubhouse, even if they haven' t replaced the roof !

IF you do play SGH make sure you play red and blue. THey do course maintenance on the three nines this time of the year, and you may find you have to play the green, which is not as good as the other two.

Purely on the basis that they are doing maintenance on one of the 2 'main' 9s, I'd have to recommend Hankley! The Green may not be quite as stunning as the other 2, but the 'scenery' around it certainly is!

Either course will actually be a real treat, so I'm certain you won't be disappointed whichever you choose!

Thanks for the replies. Seems that our dilemma is reflected by the replies on here, but can't go far wrong with either. Think I'll have a chat with St. George's to see when each 9 is due to be closed and about any other planned works, and go from there.

Out of interest, are we missing any other course in the area that is up there with these 2, for similar money (i.e. Sunningdale is too pricey :( )

The Berkshire is a similar standard. The next level down and you could look at West Hill, Worplesdon, Woking, Liphook, New Zealand, Walton Heath, Hindhead, Coombe Hill, Tandridge, Camberley Heath, Burhill or even the RAC Club.

Played the Berkshire and Walton Heath last year. Absolutely loved both but fancy somewhere new.

I think St George's Hill is going to be the one, providing they have availability when all 3 course are open.
