I'm taking my handicap at Pedham Place Golf Centre, so far I've put in 2 out of the 3 required cards.

My question is once I've got will able to use it at other 18 hole courses of just at Pedham Place Golf Centre or do I have to get a handicap at every course I want to play competitions on.

Nice shafts in your clubs and interesting choice of putter.

Welcome to the game, handicaps are the basis of club competitive golf, they allow us to play against others of different abilities on as even as a playing field as possible.

What are your scores so far?

One player, one handicap - goes with you wherever you go.
Thanks wasn't sure.

Thanks I like the shafts in my Irons only got them about a month ago, took some getting used to but now I have I've noticed the difference.

Why an interesting choice of putter? I used to use a 33" Odyssey No.9 with a 2Thumb grip, but tried the Raa one with Roy Ainscough and Ladies European Tour player Lydia Hall at Golf Live last year at The London Club and couldn't miss on the practice green.

Thanks it's a return to the game for me after a year out after family issues, but I never thought I'd be taking my handicap and wanting to play competitive golf when I made my return. All I want to do now is improve.

I had 104 of the white's a Pedham Place Golf Centre 3 weeks ago which was the 1st time I'd ever played off the white. My best before that was 101 of the yellows and 97 at Poult Wood in 2011.

Good luck can anyone explain how congu works for handicaps, I put in 3 cards as I agreed to play those rounds for my handicap, 1 was awful 117 v par of 72 2nd was 99 v par of 72 and 3rd was 85 v par of 69 so I am told that they will set hcap on the lowest at 14, I don't really care but the 117 has been dismissed.. and my best has been used as my hcap .. not sure why you submit 3 cards

Congu handicaps are supposed to be on your home club course, you submit 3 cards they round any trebles and above to doubles subtract SSS not par to give you a score for each card your best one is then issued as your handicap.

Out of curiosity, if you live in Tunbridge Wells, what made you decide to join Pedham Place? It must be a fair old journey for you. I’m guessing it’s because you have mates up that way, but if you did decide to join somewhere more local in the future you have a lot of choice available!

yep - your place or mine

I do think there may be significant financial advantages to Pedham....

My trouble is that I have my Handicap down to 15.9 on my home course yet struggle to play anywhere near that elsewhere. I feel I have been cut to quick because of some decent scores on a relatively easy home course.

What are the Par & SSS of your course and the others that you play and the scores you get on each?

Home course is Newbury Racecourse which off the Whites is Par 71 SSS 70 which I generally play to around my Handicap. I played Newbury and Crookham on Saturday which is a Par 69 not sure of the SSS sorry and went round in 110 off the Yellows. Also played Ascot back in July and struggled to score 22 points.

Presumably, you are reasonably competitive on your own course.

This is a reasonably common 'problem' for someone brought up on a relatively easy course. If there isn't sufficient danger, an open course encourages smashing Drives, which can cause problems on courses that are more punishing.

One solution is to focus on keeping drives on the fairways - that is a pretty transferable skill. Another is to play other clubs as often as possible.
