Evening all,
I got this months GM today and had a bit of a read in the car at lunchtime while my feet warmed...
I came across piece about the Volvo Amateur Tour....
What struck me was the steps that they have put in place so that there can be no issue with "Banditry".

What they do is for every 2 points that a person breaks Standard Scratch you handicap drops by a full shot above 10 if my memory is right...

And for anybody below 10 then there handicap drops by 0.5 of a shot.
I think that this is a very clever way of weeding out the cheats and i wonder why this hasnt been made manditory in the club game,it would definately sort out the cheats from the genuine player that wants to win on merit.

I can understand the thinking but I assume it doesn't change your official handicap, just a Volvo one ? Could get messy

So you'd end up with 2 handicaps ? If you got a Volvo cut.

What would happen if you then got cut at you home track, would they take those shots off the Volvo as well ? Would you're home track do a normal adjustment for the Volvo score ?

As I say, could get really messy maintaining the system.

It's just a handicap system on top of another handicap system. There's a fine line between players who genuinely have a day out and arouse suspicion and those who are "at it" and I for one don't think there are as many handicap cheats as people think. It doesn't matter what the authorities do, those hell bent on cheating will continue to do so. Imposing a "second tier system" makes no difference really because anyone with a genuine handicap playing well will be docked shots at the same rate as the cheat, who because he farms his handicap has a better starting position and will always have the unfair advantage.
