Quick question. If a par bogey comp is a qualifier, how should handicap adjustments be calculated.
When we recently played in one and were told it was a qualifier I was worried how they would implement it, as potentially you will pick up when still able to score a stableford point, as 1 point still loses the hole.
This came to a fore when we finished as one of my FC's had a decent round, beating the course by 1. The competition scratch was assessed at "1down on the course (73)". My FC got a 2 shot cut on the back of this has he had beaten the matchplay scratch by 2.
However, on looking at his actually score, he short 35 points and a net 73. He's very chuffed to have got a cut as he's off a teens handicap for the first time, but to my mind this is an incorrect cut. Surely the stableford score should take precedence over the "matchplay" score when calculating for handicap purposes, even in a matchplay type comp?
Is there an actual rule on this, or can the clubs set it as they wish?
