In a comp today - 2 scores to count of 4, everyone off three quarter handicap, if a pro played, what would you expect him to be handicapped to?

But a big advantage over a 12 handicap losing 3 shots?

Why the assumption that all pros are off scratch or better? Ian Poulter turned pro whilst playing off 4.

If you're off +4 and have to play off 3/4 handicap does that mean you get a shot back and actually play off +3?

Correct.

Chrisd: there's Pros and there's Pros as you will no doubt know , whoever is in charge just needs to make a judgement based on the merit of each pro. Could be a kid who worked his butt off to get to 4 to do his PGA training, but could be a fringe European Tour player, there's probably 10 shots per round difference between the 2.

It was a team comp at an away club, the pro is mainly a teaching pro but plays in a fair number of regional PGA events and in final Open Qualifying a couple of weeks back, no other pro's played afaik. His team won and I'm in no way upset but just wondered what the handicapping would normally be given the reduction.

I stress that my question is purely asked out of interest, we got 85 points and were out of the prizes

I don't go along with the blanket statement that "Pros can't play in amateur comps" because there is a massive range of amateur comps, and of course there is a massive range of Pros' playing abilities.

However I don't think that it's right for a fully employed Pro, who is obviously a very good player, to be playing in a team and taking prizes in a predominantly amateur competition.

However, for example in Perranporth Open Week, all Pros are considered as +2 handicaps in all comps.

Who was the Pro?

Pro's should only IMO play in the same comp as Amatuers in Pro Ams when each team has a Pro

Don't think they should be playing in a clearly Amatuer team comp

As a generalisationI agree, but there are so many zillions of "Pros" now that times are different. It only needs a 4 handicap for a lad to be a "Pro", and whilst I believe that anyone who decides to be a pro should fully understand the consequences, there is room for flexibility in things like Open Weeks.
