Handicap question

90 rounds above buffer and none inside it?!

Edit - each bad year might result in a full shot up in the AR...

A little clue, it involved turning pro.

The R&A process for re-instatement as an amateur is pretty rigorous with a minimum period of one year before it can be effected. If he has been re-instated after previously losing amateur status, he would still have to declare his previous playing/handicap history if applying for a handicap. Tell us more.

Was a pro for a year, rejoined the same club, was given a 5 handicap(ha!), played junk for a year, went up to six, and was given one back in the annual review.

Would you play him for money?

If he went to Pro off plus 2 then given 5 after a year being pro then the HC sec needs kicking out - that shocking tbh and tbh would have thought the EGU would have said something when the CDH got submitted

In fact shocking also that the player didn't himself start from +2 or scratch at least

Sorry but that's blatent HC cheating

I have posted because I'm a bit stunned, but I can't comment as all at my club have had warnings regarding use of social media and critiscm of the club.

It does smell a bit though.

Don't blame you for being stunned

Surely the county must be aware of it ?

I would have a word with them - the county that is

Wouldn't the county have had to authorise a Cat 1 allocation? There simply must be more to this....... besides, if he went up from 5 to 6 by playing bad I don't think there's much evidence that anything is wrong?? Bloody unusual granted, but I'm not sure what point is trying to be made by all this.

He is entered into a somewhat dubious competition where serious money is at stake. I'm not happy, given I could draw him in the first round, and instead of getting 7 shots, I now get 2. To me, that's a bit squiffy.

Come on, a few years ago, he was a pro.

Although I know the guy has a lot of previous and has been a seriously good golfer but Did someone not post up on here not that long ago that when being issued a new handicap they can't give you a cat 1 one? Hence why he got 5??? Possibility??

5 is a Cat1!

Allocation of Cat 1 requires Area Authority approval; it's not prohibited.

As for this particular case, I wouldn't want to comment on it without knowing the full details. If it has been authorised by R&A (back to Amateur) and Area, then it's gone past sufficient bodies to be noticed and reacted to.

As for the particular 'big bucks' (gambling) competition; these are the sort of things that tempt folk into distorting the system - others being high value prizes like trips to Dubai etc - so should be discouraged. If you don't realise that sort of thing can happen, then you are pretty naive! Not actually that's what is happening in this case, but there have certainly been some suspicious 'repeat winners' in those events!
