Our club has a monthly Medal from April to September but no other competitions that qualify for handicap purposes. So allowing for holidays, work and family commitments one has to play 3 of these 6 Medals to keep an active handicap. I have no experience of other clubs but think a maximum of 6 qualifiers a year seems very little. Needless to say, the list for tee-times is filled very quickly when it is posted.

Is this the same at other clubs?

That seems very minimal and maybe time to volunteer to be on the committee to help run more comps?!

Remember, you can submit up to 10 supplementary cards per year (no more than 1 per week) which count towards handicap.

We have at least 6 qualifiers a month thro' the summer. This drops to 4-5 a month thro' the winter - qualifiers all year round.

If you only have six competitions a year then it's time to move club. Do you not have any other competitions at all ? Stablefords, strokeplays for specific trophies etc ? Seems like a very backward thinking club IMO.

We have at least 4 a month from April to October and two a month through winter. Questions need to be asked why this is the case.

That is unbelievable. Does the club run any other competitions which could be quailifiers (individual Strokeplay, Stablefords or Bogeys) but aren't because the club doesn't want them to be? If so, they are in breach of CONGU rules.

We have qualifiers Tuesday and Sunday every week throughout the year plus the Seniors have qualifiers nearly every Friday throughout the year. Last year I played over 100 qualifiers (and if that doesn't make my handicap a true reflection of my playing ability, nothing will).

An extremely low number of qualifiers, must result in a large number of supplementarys or inactive h/cap. We have 3/5 a month April through October, there are stableford winter comps too but non qualifying.

Wish we had qualifiers all year round. Only thing that really does my nut in about golf, the winter crap and no qualifying comps.

Club I'm at has 3 a month from May to August. Then 2 in Sept, although ridiculously they are finals that you have had to have qualified for, then only 1 a month through the winter. Really bothers me TBH.

Our club has a medal every single month of the year, we also have probably around 15 or so competitions which are qualifiers. Plenty of opportunity to lower the handicap :)

I am strictly a weekend golfer, so a medal a month plus the major competitions is about all I can get to.

I know there are mid week medals at our club, but again I don't think it's more than one a month.

Thanks for the feedback Guys. I thought it seemed poor but as I've only been a member 2 years I had nothing to compare it with. Your replies will give me the courage to ask a few questions.

Ours is a monthly medal, a monthly mid week medal, plus all the named comps which is at least 1 per month - even the "Pro-shops" are qualifiers - I guess about 5 a month summer, down to probably 3 a month in winter untill the weather butts in and naffs things onto temp greens. 6 a year is way too few...

We have qualifiers all winter (weather and frozen greens permitting) although strangely no medals. At least it means we can keep the handicap active and maybe get a cut or two. I would want to know why all the qualifiers are in such a small window and what the club's logic is
