guys - how can i get some sort of handicap certificate before my trip to the Belfry? i've been using
Today's golf handicap tracker but obviously this probably won't carry any weight - other than signing up as a member is there anything else you'd suggest?

when i went to the Algarve i got my instructor to write me a note saying i was profficient, played off around 24 at the time - i was never asked for anything but would something similar be ok at the Belfry do you think?

I've played at the Belfry a couple of times in the past (albeit quite a while ago now) and although they said certificates were required, we weren't asked for them at any time.
Only place I've ever been asked for certificates was Vilamoura Old course in the Algarve.
Can't you borrow a mates?
;)

Dont know anyone who has ever been asked to produce a handicap cert at the Belfry this is not a private members club as such it's a money making concern they are not going to turn you away.

Why not? They dont know who you are, Just say you are enquiring before you book with a group of mates, where one chap don’t have a handicap certificate.

If you put it like that I guess there is no harm in asking....I just thought you meant he rang up and said "I haven't got a handicap certificate, can I come and play"...where they were likely just to give a blanket "no".
I'll wind my neck in

In my experience if you turn up looking like a golfer the course management won't ask for proof of your handicap. However, turn up looking like a sack of sh%t$ and you will definitely be asked to produce a certificate. Once your off and playing you only have to hit 2 good shots all day. 1st tee shot and the approach to the last. Make it look good for the viewing gallery.

Best of luck with your day.

I'm sure if you register on 2-fore-1's website there is an option to join something else that gets you a handicap cert. Not sure how much weight this has, or the cost, but maybe worth considering?

They are unlikely to turn you away, but I wouldnt hold too much faith in some of the h/c certs you can obtain these days.Unless it is a requirement at a stuffy club, they may as well accept, the word of a member of the club you are playing at, or your own word along with acknowledgement of the partners you are with. I believe that is just as good evidence as many of these h/c certs people can get for ten a penny. Only an official cert from the secretary of the club you are a member at is really worth anything to me as proof. Most clubs these days have greater business concerns than visitors h/c concerns.
It is supposed to be a gentlemans game so I would accept the word of a gentleman. ;)

When I was trying to orcanise a meet a couple of months ago I asked about this as, obviously some on here don't have certs.
I can't remember his name but the bloke I spoke to said there is a minimum H/cap requirement but they DON'T ask for certificates.

If you really want one i'm sure I could photocopy mine and send it you.

I've got a copy of mine if you get really stuck but I'm sure it will be fine. I'm playing the Oxfordshire at some point in early 2009 and they have said we will need to produce one before payment of our green fees.
