Just about to dust off my clubs and start playing again, it has been about 4 years since my last club when I was playing off 11.

Where do I stand with regards to starting again? Do I need to declare that old handicap or just join a new club and do some qualifying rounds?

Cheers

Old handicap is now history. Join new club and submit 3 cards, no other way to do it.
If you don't get 3 cards in per year your handicap is 'starred' which means you are ineligible for competition play until you submit another 3 cards. It would be sufficient as proof of handicap just to play some courses which is common in the USA I believe.
If you can prove illness then that is the only way out of not submitting 3 cards in the year.

Cheers birdieman - I did not fancy having to start out again from 11, could be a bit tricky!

Hopefully it will all come flooding back pretty soon though.

You and Me Cliff. I'm going to play in a few comps over the next week or two and expect to be put off scratch until I have handed in 3 cards. I don't want to play off 11!
If it's any encouragement, I reckon it's coming back quickly and fancy my chances of a single figure round not too far away. I thought it was going to be hell....but 4 trips to the range and I'm not far off normal.
Good Luck.
