I was in a medal today, the results from yesterdays comp hadn't been released yet so i played off my pre adjusted handicap of 5, during the medal the results were emailed out and my handicap was now 6. I changed my card from 5 to 6, i assume this is ok because it was before i signed the card. Is this allowed?

I am not sure. I played Goswick Open and I changed my hcp from 5 to 6 at end of the comp as scores from day before were published by home club during the round.
I changed hcp on card and also explained the situation to them. When they published results on HDiD they still had me as 5.

It did not actually matter I as missed buffer off either hcp.

6-2a requires the player to declare his handicap before playing. Although not explicitly spelt out, I cannot imagine this would be different for stroke play.

Does Rule 6-2b not spell out that you are only required to record your handicap in a stroke play competition before it is handed in to the committee.

"6-2b. Stroke Play In any round of a handicap competition, the competitor must ensure that his handicap is recorded on his score card before it is returned to the Committee. If no handicap is recorded on his score card before it is returned (Rule 6-6b), or if the recorded handicap is higher than that to which he is entitled and this affects the number of strokes received, he is disqualified from the handicap competition; otherwise, the score stands."

I agree, based on that its ok to change handicap in strokeplay until it is signed and handed in. 6-2a just covers matchplay.

Plain conjecture but seeing as the player is not required to do any net related things on the scorecard other than put his handicap on it, I imagine it is fine to put the new handicap on at the end of the round.

I too think it's OK to record handicap correctly at the point that you sign your card. It has no effect on the actual round (unlike Matchplay), only the maths afterwards. It's the signing and returning of the card that is important in Stroke Play.

That was confirmed.
