Hi guys 2 quick questions regarding handicap cards. Firstly how long will it take for my handicap to be given I've given my last card in today and interested in putting my name down for a comp Wednesday will this be too soon? Secondly is it true anything above a double bogey gets taken down to a double?

Thanks

Depends on the committee. At ours then it would usually be allocated at the next handicap committee meeting but the Chairman may allocate earlier at his discretion. Simple answer is to ask the club.

Yes, cards are "netted down" to double bogey maximum and the lowest card against SSS should be used unless there are other factors to consider.

I normally sort out a new HC within a couple days of the third card being submitted

I put my 3 in last Saturday and chased the handicap secretary for an answer so I could play in a comp this weekend. I'd got it by Thursday.

Theres definitely other factors considered as I put in cards of 87, 89 & 92 and ended up with a 14 h/c. Each round had nothing more than a double though.

Thanks mate out of interest what other factors are considered and what did you expect your hcp to be?

If no double bogeys then you should of had 15 best score 87-72(sss) unless you played in a comp and sss went up to 73

As the other replys etc, all down to the H'cap sec. I'd email him and give him a nudge, it shouldn't take long to sort out.

Where did you eventually join?

He couldn't be playing in a comp - he had no handicap.

Assuming SSS72, the new formula for initial allocation comes out at 14.

I recently posted this on another thread:

"After adjustments down to double bogey, you determine the LAGD (Lowest Adjusted Gross Differential) i.e the best adjusted score minus SSS. Then it's:

Initial Handicap = (LAGD + (LAGD*0.13))/ 1.237"

This is why I say there's some other factors being taken into account somewhere. I was expecting 15 but the h/c sec. said the cards wmequate to 14. I said I had no more than a double ie no triples or more so nothing would have been "netted down"

Youre correct. SSS 72 and no comp cards obviously as I couldn't play in any.

Thank you for the formula 👍🏻

No other "factors" should have been taken into account. Try talking to the person who assigned the handicap.

I was going to have a go at my 3rd card this Friday but have been struck down with man flu...
Would my old handicap have an influence ... Best card was a 14 over with a lovely 10 on a par 4 😭

Any previous handicap history must be taken into account. If you haven't already disclosed it, do it.
