I've just put today my final card in to get my handicap
Scores after netting down to double of 94, 91 and 88. The Par score is 71 and SSS score is 69
Am i right in that it should come back as 17?
88 - 69 = 19 *0.13 + 19 = 21.47 / 1.237 = 17.35 rounded to 17??
Just so know what to expect?
Obviously gone are the days of 3 scores and take the average! this is my 1st handicap, so want to start playing the course to it for my first comp in a few weeks

Calculation is correct but your committee can vary it using any other information available to them.

The usual one is where a player has "taken a few years out", submits cards saying 14 but played off 6 ten years ago or whatever. Other factors such as age etc should also be considered but I'd be reluctant to allocate more than 9 unless there's good evidence that he won't improve quickly.
