Handicap cards marked not in comp?

Yes there is no problem having a card marked by another member for handicap purposes. It does not have to be in a comp.

Just write on the card (For Handicap) and hand them in.

Yep
Just been given my handicap using 5 or 6 "casual" round cards, and two of those weren't even at my club!
I wanted to play in a medal the other week just to get a card marked for handicap. Was told I couldn't play in it because I didn't have a handicap!
Catch 22 situation eh???

Thanks Lads, yep off whites and marked hcp card. Drove our 6th (260) with a 3 wood to 7 foot of the hole for eagle  and ended with 49 points even after two blobs !!

Life is great now I have my good old driving back.

At my place we put in two cards from general play and a third is marked whilst playing in a competition. All then go in marked "For Handicap Purposes"

It's not getting the handicap that's the main thing, it's keeping playing in comps and getting it to the correct level that really counts.

You can only submit 'supplementary scores' if you have returned less than 7 cards for handicap the year before.

Supplementary scores are just for people who struggle to get many cards in, not for regular players to try and build handicaps or try to get handicaps down outside a competitive environment.

If you hand cards in and the match and handicap secretary tries to enter them into the Club2000 software it won't let him if the player has more than 7 cards in during the previous year. If you have less than 3 this year I expect it would let him enter a supplementary score however.

Is this for a h'cap?

If so, I don't see the problem.

Only thing I would say though is beware the "trap" of playing a shorter course to get the h'cap. I played a very short course (winter mats x3) and got nobbled with a completely unrealistic h'cap.

It's taken me over a year to get close....

If you hand in a 15/16/17 off a short course when the most likely result off whites would be (say) 17/18/19 the outcome may well be a 13-15 h'cap.

My best card was an 81 with a SSS of 67. There were no "worse-than-doubles" on my card, and I got 11.5.....GITS.

Sorry but this is completely wrong......only scores in a 'qualifying competition' over a 'measured course' count for handicap purposes (assuming you already have one) I'm afraid...

So our Secretary was wrong giving me a handicap after 4 friendly games played on different courses?

Smiffy,

"So our Secretary was wrong giving me a handicap after 4 friendly games played on different courses? "

IMO yes, he was wrong in allocating you a handicap on that basis. Cards for your handicap should be over your home course. Once you have a handicp then playing in any "Qualifying Competition" at another course should be reported to your own club and they should then take that into consideration when managing your playing record and handicap.

Have things changed over the last few years then?
When I was at Crowborough I could hand cards in from any course I had played and the then secretary would adjust my handicap under rule 19 (or whatever it is).
If I'm shooting the lights out, does it matter which course I'm playing? They all have SSS's and all have to be played.

In answer to your question, yes I believe there have been some fundamental changes to the system over recent years. There were certainly some tweeks carried out for the start of this season.

When you say you handed in cards, were they for bounce/friendly games at other courses or for away comps ?
