hi all, as i mentioned in previous post i have just joined my first golf club and am excited about getting round to my handicap rounds.

seeing as i work full time and cant get to the wednesday roll ups my club holds, i will need to play with a couple of helpful member in order to hand in my h'cap cards.

question is, as members of clubs do you dread going round with a new member or look at it in a more positive way? i can understand why some people wouldnt want to spend their 1 day of golf a week/month with a new member marking his/her card?

thanks

I look forward to it. A good chance to make new friends. I think most golfers don't have a problem playing with beginners.

At ours the new members will usually play in the Saturday roll up however will just play off the whites in which every group they're with. This means they get to play with at least 2 other members (it's drawn) and there are no issues of them taking part.

Always good to meet a new member, at the end of the day we were all one once!!

I was in the same boat the other week, and found all the existing members I played with to be good fun, company and bared with me while I played some of the worst golf of my life!

I guess it's a case of making sure you're good company around the course more than anything else, I can't see the marking of a card being too much of a pain!

If I'm playing in a medal, I'm going to be marking somebody's card, so it makes no difference whether it's a new member or the club captain - it's no hassle.

I'm always happy to play with new members, not least because I remember how generous people were to me when I was a new member.

Go for it and don't worry.

I have the exact same dilemma. I recently joined my local course and Have my first comp on Saturday. I plan to partake in the Bounce games they have on a Saturday or Wednesday Night. Get my cards in and marked and see just how bad I am

ask the pro or one of the comittee members to poit you in the direction of a friendly member at least for your first round, if they know its your first card before hand it will help with there attitude, there are plenty of members at all clubs only to pleased to help a new member as they start out at a new club. Relax and enjoy.

I have just been in a similar situation. I just put my name down on the sheet where there was a blank, now they ring me every week to see if I want to play. I will do the same if I get a new member.
