Morning

I was talking to a friend yesterday - Last week in a medal he shot a nett 69. CSS was 68.

His exact was 17.7 but went down to 17.4

On his card he had 2 8's at 2 Par 4s.

Should these have not been changed to 6s for handicap purposes?

If this is the case should he not have went down to 16.8?

Thanks

Nett 69, CSS 68.....I think any cut was unjustified....

Could it have been CSS 69, nett 68? That would give 0.3 cut for a cat 3 player?

I think most secretaries would ignore 2x8s. If it had been a stableford, the 8's would have score no points as would a 7 on those holes. It could have been a good stableford score!

Stew,
I think the handicap cut is correct in accordance with CONGU's Rule 19 - the applicable rule from the governing body controlling our handicaps that rounds down scores (for handicap purposes only) to nett double bogey at worst. There is no reference here to this applying to only one hole as far as I can see.

Assuming your friend got a shot at both those par 4s, they would both have been rounded down to 7s, thus making his nett score for handicap purposes a 67, hence that 0.3 cut against a CSS of 68.

Hope this helps
