I went up to the big city to see the Diamond League yesterday.
Hampden looked fabulous with it's athletics track makeover.

First athletics meet I have been to and it was a great day out.
It was a good practise for the Games and the organisation etc was first class.

Rudisha looks like a superstar, won at a canter.

thats because he already is - one of the best 800m runners there has ever been

World record holder - world and olympic champion - he has the lot

saw some on TV, looked really empty, that meet didnt seem to be very well publicised.

We really need a 'proper' national stadium to reflect the 21st century and in an area that is easy to get in an out of.

Good point Cmac, i think it should have been built within the old Ravenscraig site which is only a couple miles from the M8 and M74 motorways.
It could be shared by Motherwell and Hamilton FCs.

There was talk of the SFA not renewing it's lease.
Planning to take the International matches around the country and not have a 'home' stadium.

There was about 10/12,000 there in my estimation, good atmosphere and the athletes seemed to love it.

I can understand the financial side
.But I think that would take away the thrill for players, being able to say they played a cup final or the like at Hampden [new or old] national stadium IMO.

Surely though if you get to a cup final and a medal you won't care where it's played especially if you win. Not sure of the logistics for getting to and from Hampden for many Scottish fans but the argument for moving away from Wembley for England seems irrefutable on a economic scale. How much to come from say Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle for an international. Not many countries have a national stadium these days and it seems an outdated notion. Give the game back to the fans and let them watch closer to home without breaking the bank

Hampden will be here to stay unfortunately.

Not a chance they would go 'around the grounds' as it would just be to and fro between the two Old Firm grounds apart from friendlies where the crowd was going to be under 18k.
