What is the spookiest thing you have witnessed?

Mine is weird and spooky.
Driving at night from Marlbrough I saw something really weird in front of me.
I waited for my wife to say something but she did not.
I then asked her if she had seen something weird.

Hesitant yes and then she said it looked like a horse blanket had just floated past in front of the car.
What colour I asked.
Camel with black and red stripes.

It was exactly what I had seen.
No other cars on the road, no wind, cold and frosty with a moon, one cottage B&B about 200 yards away.
It was exactly where the ancient Ridgeway crossed the modern road.

What made it even more spooky was that one of my members died near that spot a few years later.
His car was parked at night in a layby and 200 yards away he was killed by a hit and run motorist. On checking there was no mechanical failures with his car.

I'll start off with this http://www.crownhotelnantwich.com/ I worked here for 6 years in various roles and Nantwich is haunted as heck anyway - so I've a few stories to tell!

1st, Is a bit "meh" but I'll tell it anyway, I used to do a lot of sleep in's (the night porter didn't work weekends so a member of staff would be roped in), most nights you would shut the bar down put "Family Guy" the TV and have a quiet pint before going to bed, but some nights you'd shut the bar down switch the lights off and be upstairs like a shot, the best way to describe it is an atmosphere a bit like walking into a room when there's an argument in full flow.

2nd, Different pub (The Shakespeare, Nantwich) The manager at the time had a german shepherd, which wasn't allowed into the pub until after closing, every night at 12 this dog would go chicken oriental in the corridor between the bar and the restaurant for 2mins (exactly) before returning to the area where the staff were sat having a drink.

3rd, Back to the Crown, we used to run a carvery lunch everyday between 12 and 3, one day the owner was talking to "the ghost hunters" (think most haunted but without the cameras) as he joked about charging corkage to any ghosts they found a glass dish shot off the carvery equipment into the wall about 3-4 ft away (sounds unbelievable I know and if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I'd think it was a mick take!)

4th (and creepiest), The GM, myself and another barman sat down at the end of a long xmas party shift when we heard the kitchen door creak, we all look round to see a face looking right back at us (getting goosebumps thinking about it again). Thinking we were the only people in that end of the building we all jumped up and ran to the kitchen thinking a chef had left the door unlocked and someone had wandered in, you've guessed it, by the time we got there the face was gone and every door was locked.

I've also heard stories about a woman hanging herself from the balcony in the ballroom so her spirit is still in there and children screaming running down the hotel corridors and a few others, but I haven't witnessed these first hand, I'm sure there's a logical explanation for all of these occurrences but they scared the bejaysus outta me at the time!

One night we were all drinking in a mates house (we were all about 17/18) He still has on old coal fire which we placed a Twirl wrapper in. About an hour later this twirl wrapper was sitting at the top of his stairs. This was freaky enough but me being drunk decided to start talking to this ghost/spirit and taunted it while I was in the bath room. The bath tap started dripping and I then heard a very loud screech in my ears from behind me and the tap started running on full. I ran down the stairs with tears in my eyes and my friend who's house it was said u met her then.. He knew exactly what was wrong with me he has lived in this house for years knowing what is there. That same night a photo flew off the wall aimed at me. Before this night I did not believe in spirits but no I do and know not to taunt them.

I thought this thread was going to be about Halloween and I was going to say how much I dislike it. Pure American cultural imperialism and encourages aggressive begging and nuisance pranks.

I wish the whole thing was banned!

In terms of frightening experiences, in my hall of residence at University, during my first term, I woke up in bed one night because it felt like someone was sitting or lying on top of me. There was nothing there at all but I felt like I was being squashed. Seconds later, there was a swirling, dirty red ball of energy and light moving quickly on the ceiling at the end of my bed. I was very spooked and tried to scream but no sound came out. This lasted about thirty seconds then abruptly stopped. I ran screaming from the room, banged on a mates door, jumped in bed with her and was frankly, scared witless. I spoke to the manager of the building in the cold light of the next day and said I would like to move rooms. They agreed within the hour. The room was emptied and no-one moved into it for the rest of the year.

A couple of weeks later, I was informed that two years previously, in room 1021 (my room), a female student had become suicidally depressed and hung herself in there. I was the first person to be given the room since this had happened.

This is a true story.

As a footnote, I would point out that I am a total atheist, I don't believe in ghosts and I was and still am of sound mind. I don't quite know what happened but I do know I was very scared indeed and to this day, have no idea quite what happened that night.

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension— a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.
