So, i played on Monday on a corporate jolly at Bowood, lovely course BTW. Anyway, the day kicked off with Bacon butties and coffee, quick trip to range, few putts and off we all go.

It took me until the 4th hole to play any respectable golf, the next few holes were also good. Make the turn and we are greeted with the halfway hut, serving hot delights (it was quite chilly actually) so i tucked into a sausage roll. I then proceeded to play the next 3-4 holes like a muppet, took me to 14-15 before i started scoring again! So my theory is, Bacon butties and sausage rolls are killing my game, however they are yummy!

Should i have had a bowl of granola before playing instead and maybe refused the sausage roll and consumed a cereal bar on the turn? Or is eating before/during golf for wimps and diabetics? Who knows. Its a mystery to me.

Should i consider seeing a sports nutritionist? can they do a fitting for a pre and during round "menu" Can anyone recommend someone?

Chilly conditions excepted, I've never really been keen on halfway huts - though generally partake of their services.

Like you, I find they disturb the rhythm of the round.

Glad to see you enjoyed Bowood. Nice place to play golf - even if the golf doesn't match the surroundings!

How come? Is it because of the fact it slows play down as some people stop to eat, but expect to go straight out?

At a course I regularly play theirs a cafe type trailer that parks in the layby on the main road that runs behind the 10th tee. Can't get the sweet smell of bacon out of my head for the next 2 holes. So I think you could be onto something here. Bacon is killing our game.

I dont think its just Bacon, its pork products in general, especially ones wrapped in delicious carbs (either bread or pastry)

Now what about a KFC as a half way hut, I don't think I could leave without a bag of hot wings!!

Imagine the chicken grease on your grips though? i can envisage clubs slipping out of hands on the 10th. brings a new angle to the 10 yard bucket challenge though!

Its a sacrifice I am prepared to make

Bacon might be killing your game but it is saving lives every sunday morning by raising the (nearly) dead to life from an alcohol induced coma with its miraculous aroma.

Bacon is proof that God has a sense of humour - Having proved that it saves lives, he then stopped jewish followers from having pork. (paraphrased from al murray)

We played at Trevose in a match last year and theirs is on the 10th tee after two longish par 4s. It didn't slow down play at all with it being followed by a shortish par 3 and it was a great time to have a chat and get to know our opponents. It was a welcome break on a cold day and the prices were very good considering how much similar items cost in the clubhouse.

Er, did you read the 2nd sentence?

Doesn't slow play down - though adds 5-10 mins to a round.

A convenient place for faster groups to go through slower ones with little/no disruption too.

I read it. Just didn't take it in. I do that a lot :) Interesting that you don't like them because you feel it messes with the rhythm of your round, but still partake anyway!

The Carrick have a just after halfway house in the form of an old boat serving up cold beer and soft drinks along with choccy bars. The cold beer went down well on a really hot day in July and birdied the next two holes!

Alcohol is the answer, not bacon!

Half way huts are an essential ingredient to social golf! Trouble is they also contribute to the slow play issue if we dont all take part!!! So "Bacon" is to blame for it all!

Hmm, a lot of people blaming pork products... do you think thats why i can sometimes have a shank? because the pork is jealous, as typically shanks refer to Lamb.. I think Lamb shanks at halfway huts would not sell well...

I found that i cant do sports or anything which needs focus if im dehydrated, lacking nutrition or lacking sleep. I just have slow releasing carbs and protein for breakfast (muesli etc and take a homemade flapjack with me (posted a recipe last week).

When i drink caffene i also get a huge improvement in focus etc as well and tend to do better.

'Not keen' does not mean the same as 'don't like'.

If everyone else is partaking, the rhythm of the round is affected anyway.
