Went to a popular UK Golf shop that had a golf simulator to compare my old irons , Callaway X22 to some irons i was interested in, TM Rocketballz.

Now i talked with the staff member before i hit any shots and we both already knew the system was set to good conditions , EG warm weather, flat fairways, basically great conditions.

I hit some shots and kept hitting until i hit 5 good shots and the stats were ( 7 Iron )
Average carry - 155 Total distance - 175

Which the staff member said was fairly decent but he said what i need to think about more is the carry distance rather then the total distance so i said ok and tried the Rocketballz iron ( 7 Iron )

Average carry - 171 Total distance - 190

I think its pretty common Knowledge that the lofts are strengthened on the TM, But i felt with those kind of numbers for me id be silly not to buy them.
Bought them for £265 with a few free bits

Any comments welcomed

The 7 iron is a 6 iron so a carry of 171 sounds ok but another 19 yards of roll is a little over the top... Was the simulator set to links golf on a baked fairway

I wouldn't fancy hitting shots into greens where I have to work in 19 yards of roll.

Good luck with the new clubs, I had Burner 2.0's and with them being labeled wrong they where very long...

well yes the fairways was in very good condition but i should have really added the flight of my irons are quite low its just the way i hit them so yes i do usually get alot of roll as long the fairway isn't to soggy

I'm surprised with your current bag setup you don't have the Rocketballz driver? I have just switched from the Rocketballz driver and I thought it was great... I am falling in love with my G25 now though but the RBZ will be staying in the hall of fame corner

I tried the Tm rocketballz driver but when i hit the G20 up against it, in that battle the G20 won it easy.
G20 was only slightly longer but for me what won it was how easier for me it was to hit straight.
But the Tm driver was also decent just not for me

WOW I've just checked the specs of the Rocketballs and the 7 iron has 30.5 degrees loft!!! That's .5 degrees stronger than my 6 iron so yes I can now see why there is a fair bit of roll to them.

You might want to get a PW as you no longer have one as I found out when I played my Burners

What do the newer TM iron specs look like? Have they now completely remoulded the 7 iron into a 5 iron? Loft up they say

No I mean PW, the rocketballs PW is 45 degrees as was the Burner 2.0 its almost a 9 iron really and gave me big gaps in the lower scoring clubs. Your next club is 51 degrees so you have a 6 degree gap which isn't that bad as long as you can control and take some off the PW when needed?

well on my callaway x22s the PW is roughly the same loft as the TMs so i think im ok with the set up but i do just need another SW.
So PW(45) Gap (51) SW(56) Lob(61) thats how it will be for me

Yeah you defiantly need a SW, can you not get hold of a rocketballs SW? The Burner 2.0 SW was a great club from sand and land.

Ill think about trying the TM SW but the cobra wedges i have are really good and not too costly so ill see how it goes depending on the costs really.
pretty happy over all

I love the fact that everyone slates these clubs because of the lofts and everyone knows they are 1 club stronger but they are still amazed at how a 7 iron goes 170 yards.

I loved my old RBZ irons but absolutely hated the noise the rbladez 4and 5 irons made so went for the tour instead.

I'm amazed anyone takes any notice of the stats from an AG launch monitor.

At 30.5* and 37.375" length, the Rocketballz 7i is almost identical to the X22 6i (30*, 37.5")! Only real difference is a few grams weight!

So another 'victim' of TM Marketing!

Don't just look at the PW spec! OEMs have 'got wise' to that one!

Why is it when someone has bought new clubs everyone jumps on to take the jam out of their doughnut.

Who cares what the number on the bottom of the club or the AG monitor says, if the OP is happy with them and the price fair play, hope you enjoy them.

Quickly become the case on here that unless you visit Ping/Titleist HQ and have a fitting to the Nth degree you get sneered at to an extent.

anything that has marketing behind it that thinks it cool to call something rocketballz is worth a miss in my book. So infantile using z in ballz :)

I opened this thread expecting more positive and congratulatory repsonses to the OP on his new purchase.

Firstly, the accuracy of the launch moniotor is somewhat irrelevent as the OP hit his club first to establish a baseline and then went on to hit the new club to determine the difference. Unless the AG employee hit the massive 'jack-the-launch-monitor-as-the-customer-is-now-hitting-the-new-club' button then the comparison remains legitimate, regardelss of the loft difference between the two clubs.

Secondly, why all the stick for jacked lofts? The PW starts at 45* as do many sets these days and the OP has (or is planning) broadly sensible gapping from there at c.5* per club through to LW. Let's use Titleist AP2s as the traditional example...

AP2: PW = 46* | 4 iron = 24*
TM: PW = 45* | 4 iron = 20*

Can someone explain to me why people get so upset by this? Arguably, the TM approach is more sensible as with Titleist you require one extra club in the bag (3-P) to cover the total distance offered by TM (4-P). Providing the OP is comfortable with the gapping which may be, for example, 12 yards per club rather than 10 yards per club... then happy days, he's just found an extra spot in the bag!

Good luck OP; I hope the new bats work out for you. :)

Check (my) post #15 - which uses the specs of the actual clubs used (X22 7i, Rocketballz 7i).

Note the comment about OEMs and PWs. and a 45* PW leaves quite a gap to SW anyway! Virtually forces a 3 Wedge bag, which doesn't 'gain' anything.
