I really enjoyed myself on my lesson. I saw almost instant improvements, with a few things to work on tomorrow. We stuck with using just a 7 iron, my typical shot was a push to the right, about 130-140 yards. After a few drills, I had gained an extra 20 yards, and much more consistent shots towards my target line. Really looking forward to putting things into practice more tomorrow, and booking up more a course of lessons.

I've also decided to join my local club, http://www.llantrisantgolfclub.co.uk/ (website doesn't do it justice ), I'm signing up tomorrow !!!

Well done fella.

Who you having lessons with by the way? Local to Cardiff?

Good choice on joining Llantrisant, i fully believe it is better to join an established club and play lots of comps' rather than the 'nomadic' approach to playing courses.

Keep at it.

John.

Good stuff. The secret is not only to work on the drills you learnt today but to make sure you don't let any other faults or bad habits creep in. I'm glad you are joining a club as regular competitions will only help your game.

I had my lesson at Hensol Golf Academy, I'll be booking a course of lessons and see how I progress from there. I may have a few lessons from the Pro at Llantrisant too.

I'm not sure what to expect when joining, how do I get involved in competitions ? I quite often play on my own, so will those score cards count towards my H/Cap certificate, or will I have to play with people I don't know so I can have someone sign my scorecard for me ? I don't know how it works, sorry for all the questions.

Well done mate !!!

I was in the same boat. I took the plunge last year. It helps joinging a friendly club as you will probably have to play 3 rounds with a member who will sign your card. This will give you your handicap so you can play in the comps.
The guys are right saying it will improve your game though ! good luck !

Karl

You will need to put three cards in (usually off the whites) and signed by your playing partners so you'll need to find two members to play with (we have to play in 3's for handicap cards). The best way to do it and to get to meet people and get yourself known is to enter the competitions. The entry sheets are usually in the pro's shop. You won't be able to play int he competition itself but you'll be able to get the players you are drawn with to mark you card while you mark their competition card
