I went to have a play with a few different drivers today to what set up would suit me best before I part with any cash.
I've never really had a driver as I just dont seem to get on with them but I have decided that if I could knock off a fair few shots if I'm better off the tee.
My current fairway woods also go very high so I was interested to see whiich shaft etc would give the best results!
I tried a TM R11, a 910 D2, a Ping G15, a TM burner and a cobra S3.
I was hitting them all pretty well which surprised me but the club I got the slightly better results with was the R11. Tbh tho I just dont think I would buy one and only because its white!
The 910 and G15 weren't far behind in terms of performance and both much better looking to me!
It was decided that a stiff shaft and 9.5 degree head would be best for me as I got a much more penetrating ball flight. My favourite club was the 910 with stiff diamana shaft in but not sure I can justify the cost!
I will definitely be on the look out tho and maybe even get myself a 909 in the same spec. Luckily the pro is a mate and has kept all the info and numbers etc. and I will probably have another bash before I take the plunge.
It was my first fitting experience and I really enjoyed it tbh plus its given me confidence that when I do shell out fir a big dog that I will have the best one for me!

I'd always insist that you get a printout or some means of keeping your fit data. That way, you a free to talk to any good pro about what would be best. Then source the club second hand if you want to save cash.

The 909 is a completely different beast to the 910. It's not like the R9 / R11, which is pretty much the head colour and adjustment method. It's really , really different.

I spent £250 on the 910 and it's without doubt the best purchase I've made in golf. Honestly, it IS THAT GOOD! And it is easier to hit than the 909.

thanks, I didnt realise that tbh. So is the R9 very similar to the R11? As I said, I got the best results with the R11 but cant get past it being white!!

Go for the 910 they are a fabulous club and and, as Bratty says, a competely different club that the 909

At the end of the day its only money and I have been delighted with my 910 and threads here suggest that almost everyone who has one, loves them

Chris

The adjustment isn't the same. With R9 when you adjust loft you also adjust lie.
With R11 they can be adjusted independently. I'm not convinced by the soleplate adjustment on the R11. All it seems to do is encourage you to grip open, closed or neutral
The adjustment on the 910 allows to keep the same grip and adjust loft and lie .

I think I will tbh! No pub for me for a couple of weeks!!!

in my opinion also it is best to get a demo club aswel and take it on the course i got fitted two week ago for a driver borrowed a demo in exact same spec and couldnt get on with it at all on the course so saved me £300

Driver = £250 devided by 2 (weeks)

= £125 per week spent in pub!

Answer = liver will be knackered quicker than driver!

Chris

I've been struggling with the driver on and off for a while now, after Beau and Robin Hood my patience snapped.

Went to see my pro last night and arrived with the thought that I would end up leaving with a 910 after all the rave reviews on here. After a few loft and shaft experiments the best I could get was a good 20 yards shorter than my R9 9.5deg. The 10.5 deg Titleist was consistantly straighter which was a huge plus, but the best swings were shorter than an average swing with the R9.

Then had a play with the R11, again messed about with different lofts and shafts, upshot was the R11 for me was simply longer and straighter than anything I've hit before, great shape and very powerful penetrating flight.

For me at least the future is white! :D

Excuse my ignorance, but where do you go for a driver fitting?

If this was something I wanted to do, who would i speak with to get one organised?

I'm only 15 mins away from the new malden mizuno centre if that helps, is that where i would go?

Cheers

haha! Ok maybe a bit of an exageration but you know what I meant!
Just been to see my pro and this time next week I will be the proud owner of a 910! :)

Jez- most pro's or shops that sell the drivers will fit you up for it before you buy it.

I don't think New Malden is exclusively Mizuno although I may be wrong. Give them a call and see but I think it is a fitting centre for a number of makes. You've Callaway just down the road at Chessington too if you want to go for one of theirs

Ah, i didnt realise that. Thanks i might just give them both a call then.

New Malden is Mizuno's National Fitting Centre, so doubt they do other brands ! I was fitted there and i think a few others on here have been as well. No charge but you do need to book in advance. Top place, and once fitted there is no pressure to buy. There is a golf shop below, selling all brands but it was expensive.
