Hi,
Just a quick question, how many cards do I need to put in to get a H/C cut ?

My H/C at the moment is 20c, but as I haven't played any comp's this year I was told I need to get some cards in or my H/C will not be current for next year.

So yesterday I played and put in a sup card, Par 71 and shot a 86, so 5 under for me but now have been told I wont get a cut until I put 3 cards in, is this right ?? and if not how do they work out what cut I get from one card.

Sorry if this sounds like a daft question, but not sure myself.

Many thanks

Well you can get cut on any supplementary card you submit

your HC is not classed as "competitive" until you put in a combination of 54 holes over a year

Did you play enough last year ? If yes then your HC is still "competive" and you will get cut for any supplementary card put in but would still get cut even if it wasn't

Hi,
yes I played 6-7 comp's last year so HC is Competitive, its just that as I haven't played any this year so I was told I needed 3 cards for a cut.

Will wait and see next week to what cut, if any I get.

Cheers

Out of interest, there are no Q comps at this time of year at our place this time of year so how are you fixed re putting 3 cards in for your hcap.

Things that need to be clarified:

Did you follow the club's laid down procedure for submitting a Supplementary? - notifying intention in advance, card marker acceptable etc.

Did you play a full measured course - yellows with yellow SSS or whites?

If the answer to both is yes, your club has to process your score immediately and take the same action as if you had played in a qualifier.

I suspect that someone is confusing this situation with a need for 3 cards if your handicap has become non-competition and you have said that your handicap is a competition handicap.

Yes I notified pro shop before game, had my card stamped and had another member mark it for me, played off Yellows, one hole has been shortened for tee repairs but only by 25 yrs so told that would be fine.

So hopefully I should get a cut of a shot or so ??

Your scorecard should be assessed against SSS for yellow tees which I note from the club website is 69. You should lose 0.9.

Arguably he has already lost 0.9...

I say arguably because I'm not sure if you self adjust down for a supplemental!
Scandalous - I must go away and re-read the CONGU manual 5 times to avoid such an issue again.

Your Handicap should still be cut on a Sup Card.

For your handicap to be classed as "Active" - you need to play in a min 3 competitions or hand in 3 cards.

If you don't hand them in don't worry - your handicap will just be classed as "un-active" until you hand in 3 cards! Best thing to do is - play the 3 rounds - keep the cards date, signed by marker and hand them all in at the same time.

Also handicap committees should review handicaps at the end of each season - so they'll review your 3 cards and adjust handicap accordingly.

There's a lot of potential for confusion here....

Active left years ago. Handicap are either competition handicaps (c) or they are not.

Depending on club rules you may, or may not, be able to play in some, or all, Q events if you lose your c status - either way you should return cards as either Q events or supplemental as you play them, you should not keep them, store them etc

You are not getting a new handicap, your existing one will be adjusted for each score you submit and, once 3 have been made your c status will be resumed. (Note this may still be different in Scotland but I thought they had come into line)

Thanks for all the help and advice, I have called the club to check and was told, as you good people have rightly said, I can and will get a cut from the sup card of 0.9

One thing the chap said to me which did confuse me ( doesn't take a lot I know ) was that if I had played in the comp which teed of earlier in the day I would have got a bigger cut !!

Comp was, like my card, off the yellows, so why and how would playing in a comp have given me a bigger cut ???

CSS of the comp was probably higher than SSS! Supplementaries always use SSS as CSS.

OK thanks for that, just checked with a friend who played in the comp and he said the css was 72.

So would have had another 0.9 but never mind I will just have to do the same next week, also got my name done for the comp.
