How many people who go the gym, train in specific ways that it will benefit your game?

I go to the gym but find myself just plodding around doing bits and bobs so I got one of the PT intsructors to put a circuit together mainly on core strentgh to help me hit the ball harder and become more agile.

Some of the excercises are tough but fun.

what does everybody else do?

I can't think of anything more wrong than spending time in a room full of sweaty men, well unless you like that kinda thing.

My exercise is in the clubhouse.

I don't go to the Gym but will run about 6 or 7 miles every evening before dinner, and if I get up early enough will run another 4 or 5 in the morning before I go to work.
A little light aerobic excercise after eating, and I might treat myself to a glass of port and a cigar before bedtime.

Tried the gym last winter. got a corporate membership off the Mrs.
Ladies aerobics was interesting but I was bored shitless after 6 weeks.
Did lose a stone though

Where is SteveK? He is always pushing the titleist performance institute.

I go gym and I have a programme, but it's mostly cardio with some emphasis on the rehabilitation of my knee. x

Maybe because i found the site helpful so thought i would pass it on ,in future i 'll keep these things to myself.
I've had to cut back on it just now having found out i have excessive fluid in my spinal chord which is putting pressure on the nerves on my lower back and right leg and the heavier i lift the more pain i get in my lower back.

I used to do circuit training 40 reps of different exercises
10 reps of different weights , chest press, pull overs etc etc.
Found it helped ball striking and general fitness alot as well as using a rowing machine and spin bikes for cardio, now i just swim lenghts of the pull till 'im back at the hospital.

When I went a few years back once I got out of hospital it was mainly cardiovascular to try and get my stamina up. If I was going now I'd try less impact workouts like swimming and some core stuff to increase turn. There are a lot of exercises I've seen recently using the large gym balls designed to build resistance in the turn which appeal and is something I might look at later in the year

i do a lot of gym work, nothing specific for golf, mainly weights/cardio. The core work you do will be good for your game,ie the woodchopper(on cable machine) also general stretching with these big rubber bands, i also remember that if you hold a dumbell and imitate your golf swing, it helps to stretch th emuscles/fibres used in th swing. there will be a lot of stuff on the mens health website.

I powerlift competitively at international level. I honestly do not think it gives me any advantage on a golf course, except in heavy rough.

I think they key is strength with flexibility. Thats what C.Villegas says anyway :D

Is it possible, that your strength limits your swing in anyway? x
