Hi all

I have just been proofing the 'play and stay' page for the June issue that features a stunning course pic of Hunley Hall and the lovely coastline it sits on but then I spotted the thing that probably annoys me most when I come across it on a golf course...
The flag hasn't been properly put back in the hole by whoever played it last!

I realise this is OCD territory but it makes my almost physically sick to see this sort of thing on a golf course. It’s a bit like playing footie in a goal with no nets. It’s just not right and devalues the whole experience for me

Other things I hate seeing on a golf course...
Litter
Crap quality tee markers
Jezz Ellwood hitting a decent shot

What about other forumers - what gets on your goat

I can't stand when I get on a green and find that people haven't repaired their pitch marks. Even if you don't have a tool to do it, it doesn't take much to use a couple of tees to sort them out and get the green flat again. Really gets on my tits.

Greens like the moon face with people who don't repair pitch marks it cracks me up,watched 4 guys yesterday hit the par 3 13 th at my place and not one repaired there pitch mark.My mate challenged one of them about it and they just stood there it was like speaking to a brick wall aaaahhhh

* Signs for "visitors' car park" or "visitors changing rooms" (okay not on the course, but close)
* Massive unreplaced divots the size of Bruce Forsyth's hairpiece
* Card-marking on the green
* Black gloves (sorry, Tommy Two-Gloves)
* Golfers wearing their towel round their waist like a sporran

Etc, etc, etc...

A few weeks back that cost me a 50 foot birdue!

People not raking bunkers properly.

Nothing worse that getting to your ball in a bunker and finding in the middle of someone's hoof print.
I've even seen it where someone plays a bunker shot, rakes the divot and foot prints from where they've taken their shot and then walk out of the bunker without raking the bit they walked over the get to their ball. How f^%^^&g hard is it???

JezzE I am with you on the visitors/members car parks. I can udnerstand Captains etc having their own space but what is the need for visitors to park further away than members. At the end of the day visitors are bringing money into the club too.

Also not being able to book a tee time until 2 days before. I'm currently in the process of this. I have a putting lesson next wednesday and want to book a round for afterwards, but because I am not a member I can't until Monday. I could udnerstand it if it was at a weekend but it's a Wednesday.

My No. 1 as well

Jezz Ellwood hitting a decent shot

According to the new edition of GM that I picked up this morning any shot, good or bad, that Jezz hits is likely to end up the subject of a rules discussion!

Pitchmarks!

I'll second that! Drives me nuts.

Our greens have suddenly got really really nice and they are littered with pitchmarks. I must do at least five on every green.

If you want nice greens through the season, repair your flipping pitchmarks. If you don't, then don't moan about the state of the course later on in the year.

1) On the course, long walks between tees and poor directional signage (if you are a visitor).

2) People 'cutting in' directly behind you - then proceeding to stand hands on hips while you finish the hole.

3) Chafing on a hot day.

Fag ends around the green, and general litter. People that let their dogs run wild. We have a bridle path through the course, and this women insists on letting her dog run loose. When we told her she said it liked to chase the balls, but she had muzzled it so it could not pick them up.

All these pale into insignificance compared to the biggest irritation, slow play. :( :( :(

As our course is pay and play all of the above annoys me but I do try to educate, as nicely as possible, people on etiquette required.

Currently thinking about the £2 fine if you're found without a pitchmark repairer by the marshall (We sell them for 10p!) and funds go to the Captain's charity.

I am known for my fetish of raked bunkers though...!

What's the likelihood of this £2 fine going through? I think it's a good idea. Is the marshall there still the old boy that drives around in the buggy? I used to love it when he would come up and take your bacon sandwich order and have it ready for the start of the back 9. Have never had that anywhere else.

Courses where the 100/150 yard markers are blatantly in the wrong place. How difficult can it be

Yellow golf balls, need I say more.

UP1.

1. Pitch marks on greens
2. Divots not being replaced
3. Un-raked bunkers after a shot
4. Ignorant/arrogant players
5. Slow play (...And don't wave you through)
