The past week or so my local course has been solid its like hitting a ball off concrete, and when it touches the green it runs for a mile!

If only i could spin my shot's lol is anyone elses local golf course like this?

Its been a problem in lots of places I think, altho the last week has seen lots of rain in places so maybe has softened things up again.

Our greens are firmish, but not too bad, and I do know that they re throwing lots of water onto them early mornings to keep them tip-top, but at this time of year, when the water table is so much lower, its hard to stop the water draining right thru them.

A few patches at our course have been understandably damp lately after the few days ehavy rain we had, but to be fair the greens have been swesome.

I've had a few balls stopping dead, and others running to the edge of the green but that's been down to me not the greens. The greens have seemed just smooth, not particularly fast or slow, just nice and shmooth. A bonus with this is my putting seems to have improved great guns.

Our greens were firmish on Monday but weren't too bad at all on Sunday after the overnight rain we had. I have to say that the fairways have firmed up considerably and I'm having to take a lot more 3 wood to avoid ditches and bunkers off the tee. I guess its good especially when it'll soon be pick and place on fairways again. I'm hoping the showers over the last few days will have kept the greens receptive and maybe just slowed the fairways a tad.

The club has been watering the greens recently. I guess so that they don't dry out too much. We are on clay after all. As it happens I prefer a 'harder' course, with firmer greens.

I have to say that despite the club being a halfway house between a muni and a private members club, the courses are looking great. Lets face it being a green-keeper is a thankless task. You'll never please even half of the players. Therefore I'd like to suggest that when you next go to the club, that you pass on your gratitude to the green keeping staff. After all, all they're trying to do is provide you with the best playing conditions posible, given budget, staffing and nature's constraints.
