Personally don't believe you can sharpen your grooves and keep them legit as they are virtually on the limits at initial manufacture.

Are you talking about cleaning out the grooves or actually getting them deeper and sharper ?

A common subject on here..
The problem is with the size and depth of the grooves.
You can sharpen them but you have to make sure the grooves stay within permitted dimensions.
Take out too much metal and your grooves become nonconforming and therefore illegal to use in comps.
If you're able to measure microns then carry on.

why do you think that, i found my ping wedge was great when new but lost its stopping power after a while

6 months but I am playing 3/4 times a week
Agree with this, you'll see no difference, keep them clean and they'll perform well if you strike the ball correctly

Even then your grooves wont change much in that time.

Maybe it's in my head but I can stop the ball really well with my 50 bought a second hand 58 and trying to restore it well
