I am just getting used to an overlap grip, I have played 6 years and all of it with an interlocking grip. I have always found releasing the club quite tough, so when chatting to a local pro, he was saying that he used an overlap grip, and maybe I should try it down the range to see how it felt. I have worked hard at it on the range, but it is very tough committing to it. I am able to release the ball much easier, but still find it a tad odd. more work needed maybe..
Anyways, what type of grip do you have, any changes to them throughout the years etc??
cheers

JT

Opposite to you, I played overlap most of my golfing life but 3 years ago changed to interlocking and have no regrets. Feel I have better control over the clubhead with interlocking, hands work as one better. I thought what's good enough for Tiger and Jack is good enough for me and the change bedded in very quckly.
Whatever yields the best results for you.

I've always interlocked since I started. I've small hands and so its apparently the best method. I tried overlapping for a few months. It was a real conscious effort not to revert but I just didn't feel comfy even after hitting loads of balls down the range and playing with it. Never tried it again

Evening James,
Iv been fiddling with my grip for the last 4 rounds or so and what iv found is i use an intelock but when i use the overlap i hit my driver and woods and hybrids consistently well but i struggle on my 4,5,6, irons with it and play my short irons fine also...
I dont know why this is but i dont seem to be getting enough power into the ball with the long irons for some reason and there prone more so to twisting on me too....i have pretty large hands also ....
Id love to be able to master the overlap but ill just have to wait and see how things go!

Vardon overlap is the most common amongst pros - good choice, stick with it but make sure that you do it right. You will reap the reward in the long run.

Thanks, I am trying to stick with it, but like Homer was saying, it's a bit of an effort!
I have to say though, I am finding that I can release the club better and it is helping me to cut the block from my game. My new bad shot is a hook, but like I said the grip is a work in progress! lol

Does anyone remember from school days, someone would get you to interlock all of your fingers then squash them together and it hurt like hell?

That's what it felt like when I tried an interlocking grip.
I guess I must have been doing it wrong, but I'll stick with what I got. :)

I used an interlock grip as a kid but changed to a Vardon grip last year when I took up the game again. Not sure why I changed but interlocking feels very alien to me now.

I tried the overlap for a while but went back to Interlock as I feel more like my hands are working together. There's no right choice, just do whatever feels comfortable and stick with it.

interlocking grip for me, i picked it out of tiger's instruction book (about golf :D) and stuck with it ever since. With the vardon grip makes my hands feel less united.
Most people i play with use the interlocking though so maybe it will be the no.1 grip in the future?

hands are too small for overlapping, then I picked up Jack Niklaus book and found he has the same size hands as me - he used interlocking - good enough for me.
