Has anyone tried one of these: http://www.gamolagolf.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Leadbetter_Training_Grips.html
Just ordered one tonight as i plan to work on my grip as it is the weak link in my swing .I have found recently that when i go to take the club away i have a tendency to move my hands which causes me to close the clubhead at the top of my backswing (resulting in a F**K-OFF hook or a massive push).I would like to hear if anyone has tried one or has any other ideas to correct this god-awful problem.

Cheers
Barry

i have a tendency to move my hands

In what way do you move your hands ?

If you have a strong or weak grip, that training aid will place your hands on the club in a neutral position, just make sure you transfer that to your own clubs.

Well, the grip training aid will help you set the hands right, but if there moving now, whats to stop them moving even if they are set right at address ?

If your moving your hands to a weak grip at the start of the swing, you must be letting go of the club slightly to re-grip it (if i understand it right) the grip aid might help, but your pro should help more.

Never heard of this before, but good luck in finding a cure, and stick with it; worth working on as a good grip is one of the foundations to a consistent swing.

Yip i'm going to try and get hold of an old 6 or 7 iron so that i can hit some balls with it before trying to replicate the grip on my own clubs.

I haven't heard of moving during a swing but I'm sure this will help. Good luck and let us know how it goes

It has to be seen to be believed mate the clubface points to the sky at the top of my backswing :(

I've got this training grip and it's good but I would suggest you ask your pro to place your hands on it properly first, so you understand exactly where they should be. Bizarrely, it is easy to put your hands on this training aid wrong.

Bizarrely? I should say so. I have a moulded (pga tour range) weighted club and it would take a genius to grip this wrong.

Is there scope for messing things up with this type of grip? I guess so.....

confuded :D,well confusssed

Ditto.

My hands 're-grip' through the back swing, causing same problem. New glove helped this weekend though.

I used to have a really strong hookers grip, but the grip training aid has certainly helped. But it still twists in my hands on the back swing.

Gripping the club tighter might help, but I'm worried about tensing up the forearm muscles too much.

You are not alone.

Gripping too tight is a big no no. It will restrict your turn and prevent your natural release of the club through impact which can be a real problem.

My suggestion is to keep swinging with a light grip (5/10 where 10 is gripping it as hard as you can and 1 is just about holding it as you swing). Try swinging and look in a mirror as you do and watch for yourself releasing and regripping. Focus on keeping your hand on the grip as you watch. If you can see yourself holding the club in one position as you do it will reinforce the positive feeling and may break the cycle

Watch this Video.

The Grip

I used this video to learn the correct grip, And all the pro's who have seen me play have made comment about how good I grip the club.

I used to also do something similar to your self when I started playing, In the backswing I would take my right thumb away from the club, I think I was trying to create more leverage, but obv, it had diar consequencious(sp)

Maybe your 1 swing thought should be to grip the club without letting go for a couple a number of range sessions.

Good luck.

Seriously though ! i'm going to have to put some work in as practice is something that i'm not very good at as i get bored very quickly.

Thanks very much for the video i'll need to watch it a couple of times and force myself to go out and work on it.
