Hi i improved my grip quite recently and started par, par, par, par, par, par,

OK it went a bit pete tong after that but too be honest I couldnt believe how well I was hitting the ball and never strung pars like that before, and got a bit carried away.

My grip has always been vardon but its never been 100% correct. I improved 2 things and think that its now pretty much text book. I choke down slightly more so that more club is protruding out, and put more right hand on the club - before it was too much on the side. I think the latter is most important because my right hand was too dominant. It feels weak but boy it has improved straightness no end.

Try it, something for you to work on during winter.

In my view the grip is the very first thing that should be sorted. I see loads of different grips over the course of the season with good grips on good players the common denominator.

I also have made a bit of a change recently, I have always had a bit of a baseball grip and been reluctant to change as I was worried it would take too much getting used to.
I introduced a bit of an overlap at the same time as slowing down my tempo a bit, I have lost a few yards but been far more consistant and striking it lovely.

You have to get the basics of grip, posture, stance and alignment correct otherwise you will never make repeatable swings as there will always be compensations being made. I think the fact that you got six straight pars is testament to the necessity of a solid foundation and no wonder you got a bit carried away from there on in. Take the fact that you can do it and see if you turn six pars into nine.

I've started reviewing my fundamentals and found my grip took the club in the palm. My first round after correcting this was a nightmare but I've noticed a huge improvement in my long irons and woods since.

hi, ive always struggled with my grip, mainly with the woods and driver off the tee, i constantly struggle to get my right hand further on top comfortably and have a bit of a strong grip (more to the side) now when i hit a bad shot this turns into a severe hook, i put it down to my fat fingers ha ha, now my handicap has come down from 28 to 21 in 4 weeks and im playing well, do i try change my grip and risk messing this up? or if its not broke dont fix? i would like to step on the tee confident that im unlikley not to hook it!!

Iv got pretty big hands and play with an interlocking grip and iv always wondered is this hampering me and should i try change to the vardon grip

In my humble opinion you must change your grip. The point i made was that I had a pretty okay grip but it was wrong. I can no longer settle for an "okay" grip, it has to be spot on. The way i look at it now is that you cant go out tomorrow and expect to swing a club like Rory mcilroy but there is absolutely nothing stopping you holding the club exactly like him and 99% like all of the other top pros (because they all have top grips) I took the plunge and changed my grip to exactly how you should hold it and sure it felt weird at first but after a while you start striking the ball better/straighter. I'm not a coach but from what i read is that a faulty grip is the cause of so many bad shots. if like me you have struggled with casting, slicing, thinning, fatting, and you try everything under the sun except your grip. all i am saying is to try making your grip perfect no matter how well you are playing. funny enough it will probably help you flush out other faults because if you switch from having a very wrong grip to a very right one you will probably find that you wont be able to hit anything. this is good thing!!!!! dont resist and dont blame your grip. change your swing!!!!
I didnt mean for this to sound like i am preaching just trying to help my fellow golfers.

The proof of the pudding and all that.......I will report back in 12mths to see if my handicap moves from 13 as a result :D

Started to change mine to look at avoiding massive slice and with a slower tempo definitely works; my right hand was not over to the left enough. Does feel weird but the sound and sight of the results much better.

Nice video from Twire; nice and simple
